Im pretty new to blender, I like it but I have some questions.

1) I made a model by creating the verticies and then making them into faces. It worked well but I deleted some verticies to remake some faces. When I remake the faces, select them and extrude by region it extrudes but the original faces get deleted. If I remake the face by selecting the verticies that face becomes all dark, is that bad?

2) What tips can you offer and rounding off and making guns no appear so blocky. I dont like the extrude and scale method to bevel corners because it sucks to work with. Normal bevel tries to bevel the edge of every thing in the model Anything else?

3) When I try to export to a .3ds it messes it up so that wings cannot import it. Thoughts?

4) Is there an easy way to select two verties and make them touch or weld them together?

Thanks.

1. I'm not sure what you are asking here, but it sounds like the normals are getting messed up, which is bad.

2. I do not know if there are any other methods of bevelling besides the two you have listed.

3. I haven't had problems with the .3ds exporter, so can't help you there, try exporting to .obj, which wings can also import.

4. To weld two verts select both of them and press option-m, and select merge.

Re explanation for #1. I had some sections of the model that had toom many polys so I deleted them to make the area with less. I made new polys and extruded them. It made the faces for the sides and back of the extrusion but the original faces disappear. If I remake them by selecting the verticies and hit 'F' they appear darker than the rest of the model. Whats up with that?

What can I do to fix normals?

Try:
- TAB to enter edit mode
- A to select all vertices
- Then CTRL+N to select "Recalculate normals outside".

I have vague plans for World Domination

Press ctrl N to recalc normals. However, I may be wrong but it sounds like you have faces inside the model? If you do, recalculating normals does nothing. Whenever you extrude, it always deletes the original face if you won't be able to see it anyway, which usually means its inside the model. Heres a quick example:

Here is a basic shape:

I extrude the middle:

If you look, the orginal face is gone, because it is no longer needed:

If I remake the original face like this:

It causes problems visually:

The re-calculate normals worked. What you showed above wasnt the case though because I was taking a flat face and extruding outwards. It shouldnt have deleted a face because that face was visible and needed.

Anyone have tips or links to tuts on how to polish up your models?
