I just created a little project for my niece ( an fps kinda thing ),I used innosetup to make an installer, put finished installer onto cd, when I put the cd in her comp ( brand new dell running win xp with norton antivirus )it locked up. restarted pc, put a known to be working cd in, that worked so immediately put my cd in and after a unusually long time it eventually read the contents and installed the program. are you still following this? ran the program and everything seemed fine until I discovered a couple of the textures were replaced with some default texture, after looking in the textures folder I found that the ones that were replaced had been renamed with the prefix FIX_ I tried renaming them back to their originals but that just made them blank textures within the program.Phew!
the question is, is it xp, norton, gfx drivers, direct x or something
else thats causing this
P.S
Itried same cd on my pc and it worked perfectly ( 4 year old pc running win millenium, avg free )
any light on this subject would be useful for future projects
thanx

What on Earth did you install Norton for? It wouldn't run the game at more than 3FPS anyway as my copy liked to virus check my graphics memory.

At least farting ferrets are better than stinky stoats.

@Nex - It probably came with Norton. And Norton slows down my games too... but that still doesnt have anything to do with his installer problem.

@bibz1st - I dont really think thats a DBC problem. If your CD just isnt loading then its either the burner, the burning software, the installer you used, the cd drive you put the cd in, the cd drivers of the drive you put the cd in, or windows itself.

No need for a complex installer. Just copy the folder to another computer, and it runs on its own. So get rid of the middle man.

back when i was an IT Technician, this problem happened a few times, mostly by people taking out the cd before it has fully closed the cd. Meaning when the data is read in.., it becomes corrupt nearlly un-readable. Fix means your system read the textures as well as it could .

Could also be just a bad cd.

Suggestions:
Get a better cd burner software
Wait until the busy light is off, before ejecting. (this doesn't apply if it ejects by itself telling you it has finished)
Try another blank CD.

thanx for replys, the pc isnt mine and came with norton already on ( I use AVG free, no probs whatsoever ) I know the cd is ok cos it works on mine and other pc's.
Pincho, I used an installer because the people I have done this for will find it much simpler to just double click one icon than drag everything to where it needs to be (not that computer literate you see) plus it looks more professional.
Conclusion then, its looking like norton is the culprit, wont take any more time up with this "off topic" topic ???

I have one word about norton - UNinstall
its nothing less than a waste of diskspace and valuable cpu resources not to mention that its almost as if it has a built in bomb that makes a system appear unstable & clunky like you have something around 30 days before your renewal date
thats my advice so please restrain yourselves from saying the N' word LOL
