This example uses Planar mapping. Box mapping will look different. It will give you a UV map of Left/Right/Front/Back/Top/Bottom.

This example presumes that you have loaded a model with the extension .obj, but you could load a 3DS model or .X. Overwrite whatever you loaded.

If you'd like I can take these screens and put them into a flash slide show, an example of which is available here:
http://files.filefront.com/screensswf/;5030906;;/fileinfo.html
It's less than a meg so no excuses.

+ If it's of any concern to you the screens are from a game i'm making in FPSC.

The ony problem is my compter's completely shagged so I'm on a flashless lap top at the moment. But once that problem is fixed I'll make the slide show.

Woops - Nice tutorial by the way (can't go arund hi-jacking people's threads!)

For all those still in search of a copy of lithunwrap, I found a working link to it here;

http://underworld.fortunecity.com/pacman/106/fs2mods/shipcreationguide/lithunwrap1-3.zip

I also have a copy on disk, so if this link goes, just give me a shout

Thanks for the tutorial ... very helpful

I could do with a little more help though, if anyone is willing to give some.
I made a flat ring model but when I imported the UV map to Lithunwrap it had become a squashed eliptical shape in the top part of the screen. The obvious answer is to scale it to fill the whole of the mapping area but the scale command doesn't seem to do anything.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Use a planar UV map on the Y Axis, make sure you dont restrict anything or resize to the size of the window.

Thanks but I had already done that and the results is what I described above. However, I was able to correct by selecting Edit>Expand>Vertical

every time i try to import something, it just says "this model has no UV coordinates" what's wrong?

EDIT: Nevermind, i had version 1.3, i used version 1.2 and it worked, weird!

EDIT 2: When i tried to aply the texture in anim8or, it was all black, i tried putting random lines everywhere in the texture file and it still didn't work, what did i do wrong?

Are you aware of why your loading the model into Lithunwrap?

Just select all, decal map from the front, and use that as a starting point.

Nice tut Pincho BTW - very clear what you have to do and how, which is a lot more than can be said for some tutorials out there.
