From editorial may 06

...beyond that we plan to release an upgrade to the Dark Game Development Kit that will incorprate the U6 (and 6.1) changes.

I do really hope that Game creator slowed down sdk development waiting for the new 6.0
It would be a pity otherwise
I can not really understand why DarkGame SDK was not succesfull
(if so)
It is so superior vs DarkBasicPro
Are you scared about C++ '
A DarkBasicPro programmer takes 2 months , no more, to switch to C++

If they slowed down SDK development any more, it would be going backwards...

I assume it will be updated now because of the updates to dbp 6, and there is a .net wrapper coming so c++ needn't be the only language you use the dgsdk from.

the wrapper is done but there are a few other items that need doing. Apex has been under the weather the past few days. All in all, its going well. Hope to see him back on his feet soon.

Thanks for asking

The questions are : will the plan come to execution, and when...
Yes, let's hope.

By the way, what are ApexNow and CattleRustler wrapping ? The old 1.1.1 version, or have TGC made a beta of the "planned" upgrade available to them ?

The wrap is on the current dgsdk. apex made it an automated process so if the libs change (as in an update) he can re-run the process against the new files to update the wrapper for .net

but actually this is way off topic for this thread and we should be having these discussions in the dgsdk.net thread. (sorry, my fault)

back on topic...

(Please note that I'm talking about the situation here, not about Mike Johnson)

Mike Johnson posted: 2nd Jun 2005 about beta upgrade 1.1.1 :
Quote: "Please report any problems in this thread and I can work through any fixes and upload a new beta. I will also be working on updating the help files and the demos provided with the SDK"

Errors reported about shaders, no new beta, no release version.

Was latest the 5.9 at that time? Never mind. Now here we are three months later, and TGC is "planning to do something".

I hope too, AlbertoT, just hoping and a little bit

It is becomming worrying. Though I´m sure the extra time taken on patch 6 may have caused the SDK to slip back. Not to mention the physics add on has totally changed engine meaning that the main guy behind the SDK (Mike) is now even more ocupied with the physics add on.
Something I´ve been wondering though is whether the SDK´s help file will be the new look DBPro one or the old one. I hope when creating the new DBPro one they thought about us.

Need path finding in your games? Have a look at the tutorials on www.telefonica.net/web2/paskyprog/.

My assumption would be that since TGC uses C++ (I hope) to build the engine, why wouldn't they want the SDK developers to test it first? It can't be that much of a leap to get the sdk ready. This can go on while they are preparing the patch for DBP.

To me, its abvious that the DarkGame SDK is not a top priority for TGC.
Not yet maybe, it may change in the near future...

I suppose that others dev tools generate more money, if you look at the TGC hompepage only FPS Creator, Darkbasic Pro, 3D game maker and Darkbasic are highgly visible...

But I would say that our money is equal to others and so as TGC costumers we need support.
If not then it should be clearly stated and we'll shift to others tools often free but not as simple to use.

TGC team are you listening to us ? To me its the last attempt to get something before swtiching to another tool.

Regards
Kamelito

I believe they are in the process of updating the sdk to be in-line with dbp 6

I have stayed up well past my bedtime, but I will answer this thread as I feel DGSDK users deserve a hint of an update. The situation as it stands is that I have just got back from a short holiday, and will be releasing a quick U6.1 update for some compiler and very select bugs, and then working a good deal on the new help system contents. It has probably been the biggest request after U6, so I am taking the challenge seriously and preparing a whole new layout for the command pages and fleshing them out with much better parameter descriptions and extended explanations of the tricker/powerful commands. As there are over a thousand of them, fleshing out the help text will take some time (but not as long as you might think). I have some other duties to perform as well, but when the help system is done, and the subsequent trial version has been prepared, I can put my DBP toolkit down for a brief period and prepare the long awaited GDK update, which you might be pleased to learn will include additional Visual Studiio 2005 LIBS. I cannot say for sure when this will be released, but hopefully knowing the order of my tasks will help. Remember to post your GDK related bugs to the bug base, as I will be looking there before final final release of the GDK!

Thanks for the feedback Lee. It's good to get the confirmation that 2005 support will be there.

However, I cannot read into your post a timeframe any shorter than 2 (or even 3) months *sigh*

I have vague plans for World Domination

Indeed - its a shame...

But it does give me time to start detailing a game I want to do.
