Hi all,
I made this following a tutorial in the Blender 2.3 Guide. The bump mapping seems non-existant (perhaps because I've not using the same version the book was written for) so I'll have a go at fixing that and then crack on with an animation. Hopefully that'll make it less reflective but I'm not sure. The head could probably be rounder as well.

EDIT:: And this probably counts as a project (at least, in my world it does) so I can change my sig. Yay.

hey mate, to get some bump mapping, go to the last panel in the material tab and there should be a whole heap of buttons, one of them titles "Nor". select that and fiddle with the 'Nor' slider thats below it.

ill get a pic in a sec.

I always thought that tutorial was too hard lol so i skipped it.

Thanks for the tip. I've had a mess around with that, and a few other values, and this is the finished result. Still not massively bumpy (but what ginger bread man is) but IMO it's an improvement over the first. I'm thinking maybe if I rendered it in Yafray it would be better, but I'd rather learn one thing at a time for now.

I've found that yafray usually gives better results for normal mapping. However I think that the blender internal beats yafray at some other aspects of rendering. I usually end up rendering a scene twice, one with the internal and one with blender to see which one I like better. Also when using yafray you need a lot more lights in order to see anything. For example a scene that needed only a spotlight set to a power of 1.0 needs a power of at least 3 in yafray.

yer, yafray hasnt been my favorite renderer. I never got things to look as good as I could with the internal. Then again, i KNOW yafray can produce better results in most areas. Depends what you need it for anyway.
