I'm still new at 3-D games, but I know for some of the newer programers that starting up with 3-D programing can be a pain (it was and is for me) However, the most daunting part, I found, was making levels by creating individual plains, trying to position them so they make walls, then doing the floor, and then finally giving up because you hated messing with all the object position numbers.
Well, I have made a program that lightens this problem. It's a map engine called BioMap. Basically, it reads a .txt file that stores a list of characters which tells the engine exactly how to make your map. It is a little crude at the moment, as it makes only the old wolfenstein type maps, but it's still really useful. Already, I've almost completed a 3-D map game with it.
