-Zombies (the ones with them already look crap)
And is everything in this model pack allowed for commercial use?

Thanks for the suggestions. Although I don't really plan on doing any SWAT characters since Model Pack 1 has them.

This pack will hopefully be an official model pack for FPSC, like I did with Model Pack 2. So yes commercial use will be allowed. It's just gonna take a some time to finish it.

Yeah lilgamz, you're right, the expression on her face stays as it is. Neutral expressions work best for game characters, neither overly friendly or angry, so it will be more universal.

Hells no...most of the texture is composed from digital photographs. I did do some hand painting, but I think it works best to use a combination of both.

I'll do my UV layout, then make a template for photoshop. Then I'll use all of photoshops tools: image warp, layer masks, clone stamp, healing brush, dodge and burn, you name it. Layer masks are a godsend. I'll make the digital reference pics fit the UV map, then do a little hand painting and clone stamp to fill in the problem areas and hide seams.

I also photograph lots of clothes on hangers, or better yet, have my wife or even myself model clothes for use as textures. My scientist from Model Pack2 has my work shoes, and my shirt and tie. The face comes courtesty of my brother.

lol, yeh i just started face painting, getting better though

i want to get a good camera soon, im also interested in photography, recent work i have done is great, thanks to pictures.

my friends and family see me as kinda weird taking pictures of the floor and random cloth, so do i, but it really helps huh

i use alot of those tools right now, especially dodge and burn, those ones are a lifesaver, and great for shading and painting light sources

i just need a good camera, i borrowed my mothers, to do some seamless forest textures, they turned out great and appeared photorealistic ingame but i cant always use it....shame, alot of the time i have to model and texture with little or no reference, only whats in my head...

A digital camera has got to be the best investment you can make for game art. If you can only get one camera, get a small compact one. The reason: so you can ALWAYS have it with you. That big SLR camera or ultrazoom won't do you any good if you can't have it with you, for the times when you spot that perfect rusty metal can or cracked concrete texture unexpectedly.

My current compact camera is a Canon SD500, I really like the Canon compacts, they take nice smooth pictures without a lot of the graininess that you see in other compact cameras.

Hey Bond how do you use "dodge and burn" in photoshop and what effects does it produce?

How do use layer masks as well?

I know magicians dont like to reveal their secrets but I just thought Id ask...

yeh, i have missed too much on trips...ah well, i will certainly be getting a digital camera for myself very soon, im quite into photography now...

lilgamz, dodge and burn are 2 tools, opposite from eachother, they darken and lighten colours and i think resaturate them, almost like sunlight, basically you can paint shadows and bumps with them

reveal secrets, lol, they are right on the toolbar, just click on it, set a brush and size, transparency etc. and brush away

Jon, Ive been told to go for optical zoom, as it is the best out of the two types. Digital zoom makes the image fuzzy, the more you zoom in. Or did you know that?

yes, digital zoom is just the blowing up of images, but i actually dont care about zoom, if i wanted quality pictures, i would NEVER zoom. im more or less wondering about the overall quality of the pictures, and the resolutions... 5 megapixels is good right? for that price especially

mines 4.1 and i get amesome results with it.. so 5 megapixels should be fine, unless you want ultra super good resolution.

Ive seen 12 Mega Pixel cameras that only do 640 x 480, which is really crap. Didnt that camera say what resolution is takes images at?

1.How do you distort 2d faces it to make it look good in 3d?

Yeah 5MP is more than enough. My current camera is a7MP Canon SD500, probably overkill, but I had a Canon SD400 that was 5MP that I LOVED, it was so nice and tiny. I just got a really good deal on my current camera that I couldn't pass up.

The kind that have the telescoping type zoom lens IMO take better pictures that the ones that have the internal zoom lens like some of the tiny Sony Cybershots or the Fuji Z1. That type of design gives a grainier picture in my experience. Which is fine for average-joe who is just printing 4x6 vacation pics, but if you have to do heavy cropping for game textures you want the best picture quality you can get.

1.Stay tuned, I'm gonna have a tutorial coming up by popular request.
2. Hair is easy, take a picture of someone's hair you like, or find one on the net. Use photoshop's clone stamp tool with a soft-edged brush to paint the hair in any direction you want. This technique works perfectly because of the organic, flowing nature of hair. Almost impossible to make it look bad.

well, ive taken pictures with a digital camera like the above in the link, they came out sharp, focused and pretty nice, so i think i can still use such a camera for texture editing, after all, i do alot of photo touch ups in photoshop

im just suspicious on the price (i looked around at quite alot of 5MP cams and they were about £100+)

seems nice though, i really need to get some reference images with a camera of my own...what do you think of that camera, do you know any better for the price?

That camera seems like it should be fine, its got that same design as my Canon camera, with the lens that "pops out". You'll want that 3x zoom too, for the times you just can't quite get close enough to take a snapshot of that perfectly shaped tree branch sillouted against a clear blue sky.

See if you can find any reviews on that particular model. I went through 3 different cameras before settling on my Canon. I guess I'm picky, but I just love the Canon compacts...

i just need a few more sales with CorePak Vol. 1 and i should have enough though i think the communities bored of that pack now, and i'd better soon speed up on Vol. 2

Would you create a female model that is just sexy? Doesn't have to nude. Sometimes good looking girls without weapons have a place in games. Would definitely need running animation, coward animation. Not debasing women, I'd run too if I didn't have a gun and a zombie was chasing me. She can take a gun too, have all the standard animations. If you're trying to direct fpsc toward kid programmers, consider a large group here is over 18, probably over 25. Remember it doesn't have to be nude or offensive. Would anyone else like to see a sexy female model in a bikini or shool skirt? Even cartoons show cute girls.

Im working on 3-4 soldiers from the pacific (Gifu, Pearl Habour etc.), but having some problems with getting them from Lightray3D to FPSC. I have also made all the most popular ww2 weapons such as Garand, Browning, Carbine, Thompson, STG44.. And will be making them downloadable..
