Some of you may have seen my first game, Commander Josh, with FPSC, not my first project at all with FPSC, but it is my first game.

Today I did find out that the original version of Commander Josh I started to work on 1999 and finished in 2000, is still, after all these years, being activily promoted by the publisher who has the game under contract, along with a number of my older games.

So just for fun and to see what my first ever created game looks like, follow the link: http://au.boonty.com/fiche.php?intIdGame=102013 You can even play it from there and see how I've progressed over the years

If you haven't seen the new FPSC version, check here: http://www.gamefun4u.nl/page9.html

Also note the price difference..... I don't decide on the price the old version is being sold at, that's all being dealt with by the publisher. If I set the prices they will be much lower!

The new Commander Josh hasn't found a publisher yet, I'm still negotiating with a number of them, unfortunally my old publisher retired from doing new pc games.

I knew I remembered this from somewhere. Didn't you used to frequent the GameSpace/TrueSpace forums? I think I remember them reffering to your game once in awhile. I'll have to download the demo, I loved these older types of games. Do you think it'll run on Windows XP?

This reminds me of when they redid Command and Conquer and made it into an FPS. Cool work, Ben.

KeithC, thanks for the reply! This version will work fine on WinXP, no problems at all, even though it's been around for a while.

Yes I did, I've been a gameSpace user in the past, but I found the application's export/import features very very unsatisfying. I was very dissapointed that the main feature of a modeling application geared at game content design, has such huge problems when it comes to importing and exporting.

At the time the release of v1.6 was put off, so I dropped gameSpace from my toolbox, but I'm still using TrueSpace 6.6 for modeling. I really like it, even though the import and export features are limited, but at least they do work.

I'm sure how gameSpace 1.6 is, when it comes to importing/exp[orting, is it much better then v1.5?

The version they referred to isn't the original Commander josh as shown in the link, but the first attempt to remake it in 3D. It was in development at the time Caligari held their Summer Shootout competition. I decided to enter the competition with two levels done at that time and to my suprise it ended as runner up. Scroll down until you see Commander Josh.

Unfortunally due to major problems in 3DGS A6, I stopped this project, it was becoming very frustrating.

So, in the end, I re-did Commander josh with FPSC and you'll see that there's much difference, yet still much similairities between the versions.

They still have problems with exporting .X animations; they are "working" on it, whatever that means. I'm moving away from Caligari as soon as I can afford it. I do like modeling, for the most part, in it (except the instability, and VERY irritating undo "function"). Version 1.6 addressed a few problems, but it still doesn't address some of the larger issues (I see this month's special is GS bundled with FPSC). It's still a good app. for people new to 3D though.

I do find that very misleading, they make it sounds as if you can create animated characters also for FPSC.

I really do like trueSpace, it's a very powerfull application. I also loved gameSpace, but I do hate their misleading advertisement. Telling you to how many game engines you can export your animated models, while you cannot. The claim you can export your animated models to Blitz3D, 3D GameStudio and Torque and now FPSC, while in fact you cannot at all.

I find it kind of sick that they keep on selling a broken application, making claims they cannot keep up to.

But unfortunally the only good alternatives are very expensive.

What good does a powerfull modeling application for game content do, if you can't export your game content out if it, it's kind of useless then.

I agree about the animation problems, and it is a bit misleading. Although it is possible to export animations, it takes quite a few work-arounds to get it to work, and even then there's no guaruntee that it will. I haven't even tried to use GS/TS for animations; I've got enough frustrations just trying to keep the program from crashing, and dealing with their broken Undo function.

I've been considering purchasing gamePack 1.6 for trueSpace, but I'll let that idea go again, might be a waste of money.
