I am looking to upgrade my 3d animation software(I have been using Blender and Anim8or). I am thinking about getting gamespace or lightwave but if you know any other good ones please tell me.
Budget: $500

Btw can Gamespace do particles and true reflections?
Thanks

EDIT: Also, I have been seeing more and more often that people like truespace better. Can Truespace do particles and true reflections?

Houdini £8000...

Sorry for the sarcasm, but RPGamer (Whatever he calls himself now) has tried to stress it as much as he can...Not to make threads on what 3D modellers to get, he even gave the sticky the name telling you not to...

That's like comparing apples and oranges.

Gamespace is just what the name says Games it is used to create game content only.

Truespace especially with the newer 7.1 is more of a professional modeling program, although it still has a way to go to there. (imo)
But is shaping up nicely.

Some of the things that make the two completly different are

Physics Simulation Engine
Particle Engine
3 Rendering Engines - LightWorks, Virtual Light, Vray
Shaders
Transparent + Soft Shadowing
Global Illumination
Caustics
HDRI
Subsurface S cattering
Real Time DX - Player / Modeling Mode

:Edit: ok what is up with this fourms you cant type Subsurface S cattering as one word!
Is there any reason for this?

If you got $500 you should check XSI Foundation, it's better then
trueSpace IMO, however there is one major problem, I don't think
it works well with DB, you might be able to use it with DB if
you get another software.

Or you could spend $35 on the normally $260 Hexagon 2, which looks great(I plan to get shortly), and will be better when all bugs are sorted out.

I'm using XSI 4.2 myself, and would recommend 5.0 foundation to anyone.
Excellent pice of software. Using it with DB was a bit difficult, but I'm getting quite a bit of experiance on the field.. so questions can be answered. It works fine

Full Cloth dynamics and Particle simulation

Says on the site so yes.

I've heard that xsi has some of the best animation tools as well.

Except Hexagon is a side modeller like Wings, Zbrush, Silo, Modo, what I think he wants is an all round modeller, but check out hexagon's counterpart, Carrara, same people but an alround software around your price range,

http://www.eovia.com

It looks great, its more stable than truespace, has similar feature, plus tree and landscape generators, the renderer you could say is comparable to the quality of truespace, but the way it renders is differant.
Try a demo and see if you like it, I tried the demo and liked it more that gamespace or truespace, but its your choice

IMO trueSpace has a better render than Carrara.
Carrara has tree and landscape generators but they are high poly
you can't use them for games.

I am not sure of the price but Cinema 4D is just awesome. It works a lot like Maya and it has a tool set that just doesn't quit. Much easier to texture with this than other programs too. There is a free .x export that works great with BDpro. I can not say enough about this program.

For organics Animation master rock. I sometimes use it over my big boy apps. though you will need to buy a .x plugin exporter. I can make any organic model with it, but more traditional item construction is lacking.

Lightwave is great, but I don;t think that way. Make sure the app you pick works like you think.
