You could try blender http://www.blender3d.org but IMO it's a lot more complicated for the beginner than MilkShape. But I've been using it for about a month and I think I'm gradually getting the hang of things. It's all about perservering with what ever program you choose.

Wings3D Poons. But it's difficult in some aspects. I have trouble doing organics with it because I can't do vert by vert for detail...

Metasequoia is difficult? Back to Legos for you...

It you happen to like your help files in English, check out this link for Metasequoia:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/urltrurl?lp=ja_en&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.virmin.com/meta/help

Speaking of Legos have you checked out DoGA CGA? Think virtual Technics and you wouldn't be far off.

And this page for more DoGA support stuff:

If you are new to modeling you are nowhere near ready to start talking about texturing, keep on practicing your modeling is my advice.

3d requires time am perseverance. You can not play fast and loose with it.
Go back to Milkshape, as it exports very nicely. Start doing beginner tutorials, and work up. it will take you about 3 months of hard work to get good. And I mean 5 days a week work.

Kill Me!: I am working on a UV Mapping tutorial for Wings 3D, and it will be available on my website, no promises, hopefully by the weekend. Actually using the UV Map though, that requires skill with 2D Editing programs. I also need to figure out how to load UV Maps that you've edited back into Wings... *sigh*
