Hopefully there's an easy answer for this, I've gone through the User Reference files but can't find the solution I'm after. I essentially want to select a group of vertices and align them in a certain axis, here's some example ASCII art:

Before:

After:

There is an align tool that I've experimented with greatly, but it doesn't work how I expect. It takes all the vertices and adjusts them as a whole, as opposed to individually.

The only way I can do it at the moment is by selecting each individual vertex and manually entering in the same axis position for all of them (and obviously this would take a lot of time with many vertices). Even selecting all the vertices and entering in the position won't work, it merley adjusts them like the align tool.

Could someone please help me here? It's slowing me down greatly. Thanks.

Unfortunately both are scripts for an outdated version of Max, and not only that, but their websites are no longer existant. I do appreciate your help though.

just grab the verts you want, and scale them downwards until they're aligned.

also, if you're working in editable poly mode (much better than editable mesh) there's a button called "make planar" with 3 x,y,z buttons next to it on the roll out. the big button will do the operation based on the average normal of the selected verts (i think) the little x,y,z buttons will do it to each respective axis.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

Both methods worked perfectly, thanks heaps!

Yeah, that would be a problem then. What's most annoying for me is that I have to travel to Uni everyday to work on my assignment. Thanks for giving it a shot, though.
