DarkBASIC Professional Discussion / Well this may have no point to you, but to me it does and it's not just code, it's art! :D

Okay folks, I spent the past four days working on a piece of code that would be customizable and organized for a 2D single parallax side scrolling engine. And by golly (that term is very american for those of you who don't understand ) I think I just may have done it! I'm not done with the engine fully of course, but I just can't believe I did what I did - it's totally mind blowing that I can do something like this.

First off, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to the DBPro team for making this possible...

Second, thanks to everyone here for answering my questions and giving me the support that I need to code like a pro...

Of course it's no perfect, but I certainly like it. So all you DBPro profies out there, tear this beast apart - I wanna know every detail of what could be better! I drew all of the graphics myself, Rex and the Basket Snake were done BY HAND in paint (took forever). The level was done in Photoshop. Remember, this is not done! I know I need to make the jumping more realistic, use actual physics and all - I'll get there . This is going to end up being a game, called "Rampagin' Rex" - a spoof of the original Duke Nukem. Unfortunately it won't be done in time to be entered in the Retro Gaming compotition. But I'm looking forward to making it anyway.

HERE IS THE URL TO DOWNLOAD THE FILE FROM (INCLUDES GRAPHICS):
http://www.anycities.com/user/hzence/

The link is down near the bottom of the page, right below the screen shot from T3-2K5 (a game I made in VB).

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

lol, I can't test it without the media, you'll have to supply it

As well:

"If Frame 16 and Frame 31" [Line 236]
returns the following error: Could not determine parameter type of "Frame 16" at line 236

Yea, that's a copy/paste error. For some reason it didn't copy the operator signs, dunno why! I'll try editing the code. I'll also upload the media to one of my websites and post the URL to download it all here. Just gimme a minute or ten....

Yea, doesn't really matter anyway because that's not even the finished file.

I'll post it when I'm further ahead.

Really, it worked for you? Cool! Thanks for the input!

Hey everybody else, if you haven't tried d/ling it yet, could you please and lemme know what you think? I'd love to hear what you have to say.

There are certain things that could be done better, for example the physics - well, right now there are no physics, he just goes up 55 pixels and down 55 pixels at the same speed...heh. So that's something I'll add. Then obviously there's A.I., point systems, and the fun part: boss level...hehe I can't wait.

Thanks for the input!

Oh yeah, if you look in the "Media\Sprites\BAD\BasketSnake\" directory, you can see all the frames that are yet to be added of the Basket Snake.

I'll temporarily host it for you if you want,
just email the file to me: [email protected]

Anyway, I liked www.50g.com when I was using free hosting, they weren't too bad.
