Hi all,
I'm currently getting to grips with blender, with the hope of eventually being able to create a few animated shorts. Along the way I'd like to offer up models to the community, as a kind of thank you for everything you've done for me in the past.

I've searched the forum and found out that exporting animations from blender is possible, but it certainly isn't as straightforward as it could be. So I'm looking for an app that's Mac compatable, which allows me to import models made in Blender, animate them, and then export them to work in DBC/P

I'm willing to pay up to £50 (possibly more if there's no alternative) but free is better.

Any recommendations welcome (even suggestions of apps that I shouldn't buy).
Thanks in advance.

I know people are gonna throw Blender at you, so I won't bother saying it, as I know it may be more difficult than that (as it took me ages to work out how to do the rigging properly in C4D, I can imagine the same situation)

The cheapest I can think of is an alround 3D app that is the strip down version of Carrara which is called 'Carrara 3D Basics 2' its £69 (According to 3D world Mag) and you can pick it up off of Daz 3D.
Here is a link;

The site says $99 and if my currency conversion estimation skills are correct thats about £60 rather than £69

I'm not sure if I got my point across so I'll try again.

I am currently using blender and want to continue doing so. My only problem is exporting animations from blender to be used in DB. I know there are ways around it but these don't seem definate solutions and more bother than they're worth.

So I'm looking for an app that I can import a model made in blender into, animate that model and then export it to work in DB. I know they can be animated in Blender, but there seems to be issues with those exports working in DB.

Thanks for your advice. I'll have a look at Carrara 3D Basics 2.

Which is £2,725 A little out of his price range, if he had a PC he could add a few grand and get endorphin

@Raven:
Yup, a tad pricey (all though I did say more if there's no alternative) but thanks for the suggestion. I'll have a look and see if there's a demo, although if there is it'd probably end up being one of those use-it-but-don't-save jobbies.

I just did a quick search on google for some well known animators, but none seem to be compatible with macs. Sorry about that.

On the plus side, though, Blender is constantly being updated, and has many dedicated users. I wouldn't bet against a fully functional .x Exporter being made in the near future.

On a side note,I may be wrong but I thought DB wasn't compatible with macs. If this is true, why does the animator need to be mac compatible?

IceBound -No, really-We're quite good.

It doesn't have to be mac compatable, but I spend almost all of my time using a mac (please don't turn this into an apple vs ms thread) and so it would just be a lot more convenient for me to be able to animate models on a mac.

If push came to shove, I could animate them on pc, but I'd rather not.

I've just had a look at MotionBuilder and there's a personal learning edition for version 7. Might be worth a look when I find the time to download it (dial-up, need I say more)

I agree, don't, I'm just trying to stop one on one of my threads;

If it doesn't have to be Mac, I can add a couple of PC only ones;

Truespace 4/5 can be picked up from ebay or amazon for a reasonable price, I would be willing to hand my copy over, but I gave it to my friend who was interested.

Aist movie 3D should have animation capabilities which is slightly over your budget at £68 but I don't know anything about it, so you might want to be sure of its capabilities to animations and exporting before you even think about buying it
