Wings 3D -I recommend
Blender -Supposed to be good
PP Modeler -Random

Also, my website has two tutorials so far, but will have a third when I get around to uploading the sections of my website I have on my computer. I highly recommend you check out the sword tutorial. (It was posted here by me a while back and it seemed like it helped)

if you want animation you can use blender gamespace and anima8or if you would like. those are all popular modeling programs.

Instead of just learning how to program i am also learning how to model in Wings 3D so if you know of any good tutorials let me know.

Anim8or can only export 2D animation at the moment. It's OK so long as the camera always views the subject from the same angle.

PAGAN, if you do animation in blenders, you should go to en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Blender_3D/Noob_to_Pro and they will teach you how to use Armatures. I recommend you get familiar with the interface first. Go through it step by step.
