Hi Guys,

I have been plodding through the forums and reading quite a few bugs raised from Patch 4. Fortunately they have been more the 'strange' variety than the 'crash bomb' variety.

If you have a personal score to settle with a bug that is stopping you doing your thing, please send me a source code program and any media that reveals the bug clearly and send to me at [email protected]

If I can reproduce and see the bug, I will make sure the bug if fixed for Patch 5. Bugs reported in the forums tend to get buried in traffic and lost forever. If they exist in my inbox, there is no escape for the bugs }:>

Best Regards,

What if you can't reproduce it? Like, all the people that have different vid cards that patch 4 just totally killed any dev chances with. Put in speed boost for S3 cards, lol, and ATI(some seem to be having probs?)!

P.S. This is what the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

Yes, fix that ATI problem ASAP, it makes testing a game extremely slow and tiring.

Slow loading/creating for 3D objects; apparently for those (smirk) with an ATI card - it seems to affect the few objects loaded/created, and from then on gets back to normal...

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

It only affects 9000 or less ATI cards, if you run a 9700 (smirks at everyone else) there are no issues. This still hasn't been confirmed as a driver or a card issue.

Well.. if you can't reproduce the bug on your systems, that doesn't mean it doesn't exist does it? I've sent you a program, you sent me back that same prog compiled with what you said was the same compiler version and it worked fine on my comp. But my compiler still spit out garbage... That may not be a problem on most computers, but it is on mine. Does that mean it doesn't exist?

Hey Rich, (Hope you are sunned and relaxed)

Fancy buying a (now) obsolete and only lightly used ATI AIW card for testing?

It will be worth something as an antique one day! only £50..... bargain

Seriously though, something drastic changed between patch 3.1 and 4 to affect the "start-up" time for any 3d related code, this was apparent on all the demo projects, examples & tutorials which used 3d objects. As you said it could be driver or hardware related, but it is definitely related to how DBPro works with the driver or hardware which are the 2 constants in my case, so focus on the variables, if you need any more info about my configuration please ask.

Not a bug, but could you add a "MAKE MEMBLOCK FROM MUSIC" that works in the same way as MAKE MEMBLOCK FROM SOUND? It's causing havoc trying to make a media player with visualisations when you have to use 37 MB wav files to test it

Could you check if the set camera to object orientation command and return value commands are working correctly.

Rich/DBS,

I had a Radeon 8500 with the latest Catalyst 3.2 drivers from www.ati.com. When I was using that card, I had the slooow loading times. I did some research on the boards and saw that some mobility Radeons and the 9700s didn't seem to have the problem. After looking into the cards on the net, I found that the 9500 series uses the same chipset as the 9700 series. I took a gamble and bought the 9500 non-pro. It's using the same drivers as the 8500. (e.g. I didn't have to install new drivers, or the same set again, it was just recongnized by Win XP) After I put the new card in, my load time went from 18 seconds to make 20 cubes to 1 ms. This points to either a bad chipset on the 9100 down to 7000 or they don't care about the compatibily with the drivers for the "legacy" cards anymore. If their "supported" cards and all GeForce cards have DX9 full support drivers, I think they are just slacking at ATI.

I hope you guys can find a workaround to improve ATI's lack of support.

I would stick with NVidia cards to be honest

remember: it's NOT ALWAYS beneficial to go out and buy the LATEST video card etc...

Well I'm experienceing loads of difficulty with patch 4 with an Nvidia Geforce 2. Crashes, freaky rendering problems and major fps performance hits. My home computer with the ATI Rage 128 works better, actually but still hurts on performance with Patch 4.

ZomBfied, could you compress your exe that is giving you problems, I'll test it on my system.

I might be worth it for everyone to upload their programs so other people can test them out on their system, that way we can see who are having the problems etc...

Hi.

I am using 9500nonPRO by SoftR9700. An accident occurs by Catalyst3.2 (VideoDriver) of ATI. Therefore, I am coping with it using OmegaDriver2.4.07a which many people recommend. Although there are also many portions improved by Patch4, the trouble which cannot be displayed by a part of HELP-BASIC3D-EXAMPLE software is continuing. A text display is possible. Since the trouble is unknown in to what a factor is carried out, I think that the investigation tool diagnosed automatically is required. Did it display, or didn't you display or as which command expressed?

It is impossible for me to notice that the case where it cannot display is an accident. If which command is executed, what does it usually become? It is impossible whether it is also an easy mistake and to judge.

Remember the key factor regarding the Radeon problem: We didn't see this problem with patch 3!

Sorry to hijack a topic like this.

David (hi stranger!), have you thought about using the windows API .dlls to check the sound output? - I could point you towards some websites that Hubdule advised me about which deal with this stuff - I'm using his code to allow live .wav recording from VSD tracker, I think that might be a good method to go for.

Can we get object rotation finally sorted out?? This is really fundamental to most .
Currently:
- objection rotation order fixed at zyx (should be xyz) and u can't change it
- can't change cam rotation order either
- free flight camera commands just work and cam angle z always 0
- object angle commands do work but object angle z always zero

Cheers :-s

One bug is that when you resize the camera view, to say half it's original height, generally everything is sqashed down.
however, if u make a camera the delete it, sometimes it comes without everything being sqashed. Why is this? and can u put in some way of making sure
it does 1 or the other

Well.. I think that if there is thread up nothing gets really lost and you may avoid to get 100 emails with the same request, also posting here would prevent people with the same problem to bother emailing..and all have an exhaustive list of what may not work..

MY Bug/Wish list(after patch 4):

- attack.x (the tank model of the tank demo) and other DB1 models stay invisible
either fix or let us know what exact format an X model must have to work
with patch 4 (or what modelers/converters work for sure)

- terrain commands (possibility to scale, set polygon detail and texture mapping

- fix ghost matrix problems (the parts of the objects sunk in the matrix
disappear) and possibly make possible to tweak transparency

- can we get the same sound engine of DB classic? none of my 3D sounds work
anymore

- collision tags: set object collision tag (object, tag, mode)
set collisions tag1,tag2
so that when any tag1 object collides with any tag2 object it reacts
according to mode (i.e. sliding, stop, etc..)

- fix transparency flaws: texture shows an odd blue corona around the contour
with odd see-through effect

Cheers

Does anyone have problems with this
If Sound Playing(1)=1 Then...?

I have discovered that it works but not if you use it about 5 times, it stops working and it doesn't give a 1 if the sound is playing.

Likelyhood is I will not read this thread again, and I seldom quit surfing to fix a bug reported in a thread so if you want your specific bug squashed then email me the reproducable particulars and I will do the squashing!
