I have just recently finished my game, and compiled the exe with all the media and put it in a zip file. However, my website's server would not hold it because it is 50,000kb!!! That is way too big. Now, to solve this, I thought of making my .wav files into .mp3. I thought you could load .mp3 as a sound, but apparently not, even though i says so under the key features of darkBASIC. Cna someone tell me why or someway to reduce the file size?

When I make the exe without the media included, I get a runtime error 6 in my code. Any reasons why it doesn't work because all the media loads without a problem?

If you're switching to LOAD MUSIC, youll have to switch all of your other sound commands that deal with the music file to have "MUSIC" in them instead of "SOUND", so play sound would now be play music, etc.

You could also reduce the colours in your media. Actually, most graphics look the same in 256 colours as they do in 32Bit. That also gives your game more speed.

I did that, paxton, and it reduced it to 35,000kb. Why doesn't the exe without the media attached work? I put it in the same foulder as the media.

Don't know. I've heard of people having that problem, but it has never happened to me.

Do you know where I can find out how to fix this? It would make my zip file so much smaller (1,000kb)!
----edit-----
After looking around the forums, I found out that dbc compiles all media in the foulder with the exe! With this fixed up, I've gotten my zip file down to 12kb. I want to put this on my website, so I would have liked it to be smaller but is that too big?

12kb ? you mean 12mb? 12kb is tiny. My siggy is bigger than that.

12mb is ok.

Hehe, yeah, it's 12mb not kb. Anyways, thanks for help, I've got it on my site now. If anyone wants to check out the game, go to http://theducttapeclub.org It's called Immortal Guardian. Thanks again.

The problems never end! I found that my zip file doesn't exactly work. Some of my sound files don't play for some reason, I don't get an error, they just don't play. Maybe the zip file lost the sound files? I don't know why. Any help?

Okay, I find this to be wierd and annoying. Apparently, as I've found, DarckBASIC's compiler created two problems for me. One problems is that db combines all media in the foulder with the exe(which explained my rediculous file size).

Secondly, darkbasic does not include .mp3 sound files in the exe, does not show an error when loading them, but does not play them. I only used .mp3 because it is smaller than .wav. But now i have to include the .mp3 and the zip file is 22mb.

I really wish DarkBASIC had a better compiler (and debugger), but i doubt TGC will ever update db just because they now have dbpro to work on! Too bad, really, db is at times better than dbpro because of it's simpler commands, plus i started with it.

Anyways, what would be smaller, the exe with the wav files or the exe with .mp3 music attached?

Well MP3 doesn't get smaller in a Zip, but Wavs do, so you may end up with them both being about the same size when zipped. DB does include every file in its folder when it creates an exe, can't you make a new folder, and put the correct files in it?
