Hi,

I'm in desparate need to upgrade from an on-board intel Graphics Card in my Dell GX280 (Intel 914 I think). However I am on a tight budget, I have seen this card, 128MB Sapphire Radeon 9250 AGP
, which I can get quite cheaply. Will it do the job as far as FPSC is concerned as far as functionality and performance?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

one with either ATI or NVIDIA chipset with 128 megs ram or higher with 256 bit memory, the 128 bit memory cards are cheaper but only have half the bandwidth, and as many pixel pipelines as possible that you can afford, 8 pipes or higher, I just sold my ATI ALL in Wonder Radeon 9700 Pro and it ran FPSC great, I had to sell it because I upgrade my mother board to PCI express, and my new card is ALL in Wonder X1800XL and its runs even better.

I would not buy any card lower than these GPU models ATI 9600 Radeon or higher, or NVIDIA Geforce 5200 FX or higher

Here’s some chipset and memory comparison

It's old.

If you're on a tight budget you can still get an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, they're quite common still, or you may even be able to find a ATI Radeon 9800 Pro or XT. Make sure you get one of these cards with 256Mb. These cards are pretty good, pack a lot of power compared to some of the newer low entry cards.

That one is old too, much older then a ATI 9600 or 9800.

If I do that I still get 30 fps..... the most dyn entities I got in one level is over 300 and still getting over 26fps, but I didn't try beyond that.

Hey mind your language, there are kids around

It's just what gfx card you're used to and what experiences you do have with them. I've used nVidia for years but always gave me problems with a number of 3D applications and even some games. I got so tired of the crashes, that I decided to buy an ATI, praying that my games would still run on it.

Well, my games still run fine and all of my 3D applications run stable now, so no more nVidia for me.

All I can say is never buy the low entry version of any gfx card, not even the newest. Don't get the standard or LE version, they're bad.... always. The developers have taken out the expensive stuff to lower the price and still try to make you believe it's a powerful card. But in the ned it's not, it will lack all of the serious power you need and will be outdated very soon.

You could buy the standard version or LE version of the newest card, but for the same money you buy the high end version of a slightly older model with lot's more memory on it, and still pay less or about the same amount. But you will pack a lot more power, even though the card may be slightly older, it will still surpass the newest card.

I have a geforce 6800gs (pci-e,sli) it can run almost any game on the market a high settings and it is cheap. Im thinking about doubling it up with two cards . Oh, whats this I here about Directx10 not working with older cars? I don't want to have to buy a new card. Well, I know old cards will work with x10 just not as good as ones that are made for it or something like that.
