Not really, your card is so old it can't handle the demands put on it by FPSC, a good analogy would be your trying to pull semi tractor trailer with a small pickup truck,it just ain't going to pull it far or for long until it dies. your rebooting problem could be the chipset on the video card overheating and causing your computer to reboot, Sorry but you need a new video card ATI or Nvidia chipset.
I would not buy a GPU lower that these, ATI 9600 Radeon or higher, or Nvidia Gforce 5200 FX or higher.

Good...Bad...but I'm the guy with the GUN!

Just for kicks though, see if there is an up-to-date driver for your S3 that will bring it up to DX9 standards. If not, then replace it.

Then I'm afraid surgery is necessary. You should get that old card removed as quickly as possible before it spreads into the sound or modem. Good luck.

Just get a Nvidia 7300GS like I have. Can't go wrong.

Requirements:
Quote: "DirectX 9.0 compatible Video Card (3D Hardware Accelerated) with at least 64MB of memory"

Do you have the 32MB version, or the 64?

I still wouldn't expect that running out of video memory would cause a reboot - make sure that all of your drivers (as far as possible) are up to date, and make sure you have the latest DirectX 9.0c installed (feb 2006 version) : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx

I think you'd better save your money and buy a brand new PC. It isn't worth upgrading your old computer anymore because it's processor is quite old, as well it has only 512mb ram (I'd highly recommed to have 1024mb or more).

But if you just want to run FPSC and not to play any modern games, then go ahead and buy a better videocard.
