On my web site (under the DLL & Routine section - around halfway down) is a prototype of the title sequence. Would you grateful if you could try it, and let me know how smooth etc it is.
Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

Anywho, I'm not sure what you want to know about it.. I can tell you that the fadeout thing in the menu was FAR too slow, 20 secs approx on my comp...

Yes, thats because its not linked to the computer speed... How about the crafts - do they rotate at a decent speed ?

And the other thing is - was there a long loading time for the crafts ?

Zip files are, like, so 90's, man... RAR compress a lot better.

Good news everyone! I really am THAT good...

Hmmm, when I click on it it loads it in Notepad - so I right clicked and said save target as - and again I get a text file. WinRar won't open it

Coming Soon! Kangaroo2 Studio... wait and quiver with anticipation! lol

Sounds like .RAR has been hijacked by something else...
You should be able to open it in WinRAR directly and then extract it elsewhere...

If you want, I can ZIP it up and e-mail it to you.

Yes, crafts rotate fine.

Quote: "And the other thing is - was there a long loading time for the crafts ?"

No.

lol, it doesn't matter if it's "so 90's", the majority uses it. I also agree that the majority is one MASSIVE IDIOT (individuals may be smart, but together they make one hugely idiotic entity) lol

WinZip can deal with RAR files, so I'm not too worried about the majority at the moment. Besides, if they ask I can always send a ZIP file...

Now, I just need someone with a Radeon to try it...

Did not know if you mean terminator title thingy or wipeout thingy, so downloaded both. Winzip does not handle RAR natively, so downloaded winrar. I assume you can get winzip to use the winrar command line interface.

I've got a radeon 9000 by the way.

Terminator thingy: Nice and smooth.

Wipeout: Crafts very smooth. each loads in a couple of seconds. Can you actually play the game as it appears the buttons do nothing, execept for the 'race' button which fades the menu over about 5 seconds, then just reappears!

Well I ran your demo and your 'lil counter in the top left averaged about 138
On my system, which is:
Athlon 1800xp,256DDR,geforce2mx400

I did notice however some minor pausing/glitching during rotation of your crafts
looks nice otherwise, though perhaps the camera is a bit close to the ships, making it hard to see the overall shape sometimes (I know it's just a test).

No radeon sorry

Thought WinZip could deal with RAR files - mind you, haven't used that properly for ages now.

No, you cant actually play anything with the title sequence, although I have got a pre-design demo of part of the main game up and running. I'll have to get that sorted and uploaded...

At least no-one has really large delays loading the crafts...

Well the counter drops to about 7 on my machine when a new craft loads, but it doesn't noticeably slow the thing down.

I prefer rar myself

Yeah, I think it's a bit silly how (in dbc at least) you have to completely write your own cloning system for instancing objects from memory, when it seems to have most other things right, still, I guess we must do some of the work

Just like PC vs Mac! In my opinion, RAR is much more better than ZIP and it was so since its earliest versions for ms-dos. Downloading now...

Hello, Nicolas.
I like your BMP font very much!!! About other - I think the animation will look better if you make it a bit faster.

I'd like to change the world, but God doesn't want to give me sources!

PC vs Mac is such a stupid argument... personally i prefer WinZip Zips, they're the only type of archive not to corrupt information stored within them for no reason and also bloody fast to compress.
As oftenly the size difference in compression between the two at most has been 10Mb for a 1Gb compression and as little less than 600kb for anything under 10Mb, the difference really isn't worth the risk of the data stored.

on a more important note i'm downloading the new one now gotta do something whilst this damnd movie renders hehee

Which animation should be faster ? The font was supplied by Rich - I wrote a routine to chop up the characters into different image blocks whilst I was waiting for P3 - thats what created all the text. Whats the speed like, especially for the fding up & down of the menus ?

Got a new one coming soon - name entry & credits (what few there are) - once I've got most of the title system up and running I can start on the game...

I've had not problems with RAR files becoming corrupt.

ACE files are cool, but they have nothing over the stability over ZIP... best Zip format is v7 as its the most stable there is
can't wait for v9 later this year, they've increased some features in it.

i downloaded it, i didn't see a title sequence - however i mucked around on the menu for a while
pretty cool ... althought the names of the ships look very tacky against the menu.
Not sure what you could do, but floating in from the side in that font is just a little bleck.

otherwise its pretty cool, loads very fast too

Well, its not even pre-design either now, but I dont want to start a new thread.

Did you try the name entering part on the Single Player Race option - that was easier than I thought it would be.

I do have a demo of the main game up and running (did have it running before I started on the title).

I've updated the title sequence program (the craft selection area is somewhat jerky when switching between two crafts quickly, but that should be easy enough to fix).

I've also uploaded an example of the main game - whilst there are bits of graphics everywhere - it has got the basis for the real thing - you need to go through the checkpoints in the correct order (you cant cheat).
