Hi all. Again. Righty, i mentioned before that i was hoping to make an adventure type game thingy that would be totally new and change everything etc (bet yer never heard that before eh?...). Anyway, i have a problem (surprise). Ive had the idea and plot and characters for this project mapped out for about four years now and actually got some way into it on a lesser language some time ago (youd be a div not to know what i mean...) Alas, it was a mile and four foot away from my original envision and i gave up until reading an article about DBPro, with its new fangled doo dads and flashy bells and dongy whistles. Thats for me, i thought, rushing out to buy said package, not realising the turmoil and sleepless nights said (again) package would bring. Anywho, (DRUMROLL...) onto me puzzlement: Before starting the game proper, i need to do little odds n sods to see what i can include without putting too much strain on everything else. So, in essence i want to create a microcosm of me ideas type wodgey and experiment n see how it turns out. I want to be able to load up me BSP into me tool and add lights, background details (beds, cupboards etc) and save positions and various other data to a file. Then, in me "engine", if you like, i can just load me map, open the file and read all the triggers, lighting etc and all pos data of things in the world. A sorta level editor of me own if you will, but with the functionality i need. Thing is, im having trouble
(as many others are) getting DBPro to handle BSPs.
Being a seasoned Hammer ed, i naturally use this as me default editor. Thing is, i remember reading that DBPro has trouble with BSPs (well maps, if your pedantic - you are a DBPro Forum goer) created within Hammer. Its a very hit and miss affair as far as displaying thyne level. Put everything in a folder. Doesnt work. Put them in a ZIP then. Doesnt work. Have you called it PK3? Oh, no wait a mo... Compiling... Doesnt work. Aha, you havent included ALL the files have you? Er, yes. Oh, er, cough, someones at the door...
I got it working a few times before, after doing all the above, as well as adjusting the matchsticks in me eyes, standing on one leg and crossing me fingers as i hummed (socks were sweaty). Eureka!!! i thought, and started again, building me complicated house complete with skirting boards and pc on computer desk and creating everything down to every last detail only to find out that... IT DIDNT WORK!!! I did everything the same (sob)
Try QuArK they said. It works they said. See the world they said. Well maybe not. But they said some of these things.
So, QuArK then. Not entirely sure how to use it yet but i got a simple map built and working in Quake 3 so naturally thought it`d work in DBPro. It didnt.
But this time it just stuck on the "LOADING" screen for ages and ages. And then a bit more. And just for good measure, a little bit more after that. So i smashed it up with a hammer. Well... not really.
But i felt like it.
I tried GTKradiant too, but that does exactly the same thing. But when i load a level created in Hammer it loads up straight away (well, when it does load) but with the textures all... poo.
And the other times when it loads in Hammer but doesnt show at all there are no errors etc to indicate that somethings wrong with the files or somethings missing. Just... nothing. Ness
Is there any way to center to the middle of your BSP in DBPro?
I heard QuArk stops this but cant see for meself.
If youve gotten this far then congrats, its been a long post, n i think ill have a lie down now. I just hope someone can help cos theres a few people having trouble and all the details ive seen have been quite fuzzy. Is it worth building my whole map in Hammer? Is the level from QuArK not loading a Patch 4 problem? Is this post ever going to end?
I think it has!!! Hoooraaaay!
Oh wait, theres this bit as well. Poo.
See ya guys

That picture actually is me you know...
Can anyone post me a banana?
