Because it's half term i have finally convinced myself to make a model pack. I've decided to start with the AK cause i need it for a game i'm making. I'm modelling in maya. But i still don't know how to texture, what i mean is i don't know how to get a texture i create to wrap around the model. If any of you know how to do that or know a tutorial can you please tell me .

Screeny Attached.

Great work on the model.

Check out this list for a few texturing apps.

Check out Ultimate Unwrap 3D's site for a few tutorials on creating a UV Map. UU3D is $50, and one of the best out there.

Check out this site for a few tutorials using Lithunwrap (the predecessor of UU3D), and a link to download Lithunwrap.

I hope this helps get you started.

Don't do that. Find Deep Paint 3d, buy that. Then in maya goto polygon mapping and do automatic mapping. Either that or search Pelt map 1.5 on google.

Pelt mapping will pretty much unwrap your objects UVs like a present. It's amazing. Best program I've used yet.

I downloaded Lithunrap and went through the tutorial. I've got the texture done. But what do i do with it now? I've attached a screeny of the 3D preview.

Looks good. Save the .3DS version with the texture on the model as you have it, then put them both in the same folder. Save the .X without a texture on the model, and save the texture as a separate file (.TGA, .PNG, .JPG, or whatever...that's my process); and put them in a seperate folder. That's it.

So i've saved the .x file and my bmp texture. I've created a new weapons folder on FPSC in both the entities and the gamecore part. its called AK-47. I have Replaced HUD.x with my model and i have replaced the gun_d2.tga with my texture. Yet when i put it into FPSC when i get the weapon there is nothing displayed on the hud. How do i fix this?

Sorry to be a pest

well.... you need to align it in maya. you need to rotate it 90 degrees counter clockwise. then it'll face the right way, then it's just a case of playing with the gunspec until it appears right. I can send you a maya.binary file with a correctly aligned weapon you can use as a template if you want. what version and .x exporter are you using?

and... nice work.
