Erm.... A selects and deselects everything. Dunno where the ctrl comes in. theres and online manual. Go help -> Manual, and you'll get the Wiki page. Very useful for those just starting out with blender.

Do you want to copy and paste within the same scene? If so, shift D makes a duplicate. (It could be control, I'm so used to it now, my hands just do it automatically).

Ctrl doesn't come in, you just need to press D to duplicate it, sometimes it annoyingly comes up with a joint from the other model, but it usually works for me. And yeah, where did that CTRL come in?

And that Wikipage is great, I recommend you use it hayer. I used it when I first got blender, and now i'm great at it.

You need to go there...

If you're starting out with Blender, the hotkey reference (found here: http://www.blender.org/cms/Using_Blender.80.0.html) is essential. Almost every time I didn't know how to do something, I found out how using that.

I said it might be control. Turns out it's shift, like I said. D alone brings up draw mode apparently (just tried it).
