Hi, I am very excited about the new DBO format introduced in Patch 4. I was wondering where can I get the DBO exporter for 3D Studio MAX?

Oh, BTW, can anyone suggest me any sites or tell me more information about the DBO format? I heard that this format is created to better optimized with the 3D Engine. What does this format support, i.e. bone animations, specular mapping, light maps, bump maps, etc.

Thanks a bunch!
Thomas.

It is supposed to support everything, but DBS haven't released the specification for it yet - though it is apparently quite similar to the X format. Unfortunately there are no DBO models available as DBP converts them internally atm. we'll have to wait and see. There is no .MAX converter yet.

been waiting for the information from mike for a few days now - he said once patch4 was released he'd send over the format header and some example source. Guess they're a little busi right now

Good. Then I guess I can find some MAX programmer to create a exporter based on the header information.

Thanks anyway!

won't work ... you need the full format the header info is just a derivitive FVF, not the format itself yet i'm afraid.

So, what's the use of releasing the header info?

well my guess if the header information you have is that within the help, because they're not releasing any public details until patch5 with the SDK.
which it has been mentioned that they are going to be releasing an exporter/importer for a 3D Package perhaps (which there has been a little speculation about)

the format header within the help is actually just for internal use not the use within programming the format itself. as it is literally still just fvf formating nothing more. the actual format is to come yet - and actually as there is no DBO format DLL within the update then my guess would be is it isn't actually included fully yet, just being used inthe new pipeline

(^_^)

Sigh... meaning that for the time being, I still have to work with my .X format until Patch 5 is out? Well, it's ok, just feel a little excited about DBO format. As .X doesn't contains bump maps (and all the different mapping supported in DBpro). I am very anxious to get a DBO exporter so that I can set all different mapping in 3D Studio MAX and export it, instead of setting it manually in DBpro.

I hope DBS is going to make a DBO exporter available for 3D Canvas along with the release patch 5... since that's the tool they're promoting. I expect I'll be disappointed tho'... not that the recent problems with DBPro on Radeon vid cards has in anyway made me cynical or anything.

Blame DB or ATI? Oooh now that's a tough question.

*recollects time spent in technical support and grimmaces violently in the direction of ATI's offices*

Sure... ATI has had horrible support over the years. But DBPro patch 3 worked fine on the same vid card with the same drivers...
