I read on the forum from 2005 that someone was working on a DDS Viewer/Editor. Does anyone know if this came to completion or just lost in the drift?

Also. For editing characters appearence,,what is the most used tool. What I am wanting to do is alter the appearence without having to get to in depth, just to adapt the look to my game. I dont want to re-create anything, just alter what they look like as far as skin if that makes sense.

So I guess in general,,which file must I edit to change the appearence.

I know that the DirectX SDK http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7AB978B5-5F1A-4F6A-88EB-FC646138BECA&displaylang=en has programs to view/ convert to and from dds files. They might have a texture editor, though I'm not sure. I'm not really experienced in the texturing department but I imagine use could use just about any picture editor (like the "GIMP" or something) to edit your characters.

You can download "Irfanview" (http://www.irfanview.com/). It can convert .dds files into many other image files to edit.

Here is an example when you have Irfanview to convert:
