I have C++ 2005 Express, because it is free, and at the moment I can't seem to get it to make string tables, because it can't edit resources. (I'm not entirely sure why, it seems a bit odd seeing as older versions could) Is there any way of doing it manually? When I have a look at some of the examples in notepad they look rather complicated.

Thanks

some of the best improvements of studio 2005 over 2003 is its handling of resources - altho I am using Professional, not express. Have a second look, I'm sure you can edit resources somewhere

The problem is I can't find a way to create string tables and there is nothing in the help files about them, and when I try to open the example one, from the 'Framework' dll on the DB dll page, it says 'resource editing is not supported on the visual C++ Express SKU'

Apparently, Express doesn't come with a resource editor, although it does include a resource compiler.

Look for a free resource editor in google - I've seen stuff about ResEd, but it's a part of a package for an assembler or IDE or something.

For free Plug-ins and source code http://www.matrix1.demon.co.uk

Express edition does come with a resource editor

I use 2005 Professional... and another person on my team uses 2005 express. He has had no problem building and editing resource files.

To edit resource files just drag and drop the DLL into the visual studio window (the tabbed part where code editing is). It will then open up the resource section of the DLL and organize them into your usual folders.
