i've managed to make an AVI cutscene where a 3d version of myself narrates the objectives. Now my only concern is, does it somehow slow down the game or simply has no problems at all.

Another thing, does any of u have any self-made loading bars? If yes, please share.

Thanks

Here is what I havae found on video. I made a simple 30 sec. video in AVI form, rendered it at it's lowest level for both video and audio. It was WAYYYY to huge to sit and wait to load on game startup, or for that matter, it increased the size of the game itself entirely too much.

I wouldnt suggest using video, personal opinion that is.

I wish TGC would incorporate MP3 and Mpeg into an upgrade. They take less space. Or have the ability to use animated gifs.

It really depends what codec you use, Stamina.

I use "Cinepak", and I can get about 10 seconds of video in 2MB, which is more than reasonable.

That's not to say you should be using a cutscene around every corner. I average about 3 or 4 every level, which is fine for me.

I also don't get much slowdown as far as using Story Zones go.

I am not sure what reason TGC has for its restrictions on format types for media used with FPSC. Personally I have format preferences which are not supported and wont go into them here in fear of starting another unecessary debate. TGC are aware and may at some stage hopefully consider alternative or additional media type support for many areas of FPSC that may pose no particular problems from any point of view in implimenting.

Many requested formats are not license or copyright free so theres not much point in asking for support for them - though there are some unsupported formats which could be added that can be used and distributed freely or so I believe.

yeah, i've been using cinepak codec by radius and it works good. WMV or MPG support would be awesome (minimize the size to a great extent).

jiffy, have u ever encountered any kind of error while placing 'storyzone' movie? I remember FPSC once showed some kinda memory graph image before the movie.
