Hey people ^^

Normally I don't post requests I try to learn and improve my skills all I can - but this is definitely something I can't do -yet- . I've always wanted to make a space game - but man, it's hard to model all those ships and such and since I'm a SW fan then I said, why not to give it a try? besides it's some nice DBPro practice so it could be good .

However, I noticed I suck for creating cockpit models (or anything 1st-person-related) for now, so if anyone can lend me a hand here I would be very, very glad

Here's the deal:

I have this E-Wing's cockpit from http://scifi3d.theforce.net/:

Download: http://scifi3d.theforce.net/details.asp?intGenreID=10&intCatID=10&key=260 (just look below the image, you got .3DS and .MAX4 formats there).

But it's WAY too high-poly for even trying a polygon reduction (Seriously, it's over 100.000 polygons) so I've tried to poly-reduce it using a trial version of PolyTrans (or PolyChop, dunno the name right now) with no avail, maximum reduction I attempted ended up in 16.000 polys . I've tried to make the cockpit myself, using this one as reference and such, but it's way too hard for me for now, so if anybody who has free time and can lend me a hand here I would be glad - texturing isn't needed but it's a big plus, as long as the model is below or near the 10.000 polys I'm happy

Thanks in advance!

The cockpit looks to be taking up most of the viewing space, and if it's the only main model the player requires (other than bullets and whatnot), then 16k polies isnt too bad at all.

Yeah, but it looked damn ugly else I would've used it!

Besides, add to that hundreds of TIE & X-Wings + Battlecruisers and stuff, way too much polys at the same time, just look at my specs =/ I want the game to run nicely with the most detail I can add without using too much polys (take for example the side panels, I could just make a bump map and add it some specular + metal shader, and that'll leave lots of polys off the model )

But I'm wanting to make something actually -textured- and not like most Star Wars space combat games I've seen & played (except the N64 ones, but those are... -eck!-).

I admit, Tie Fighter & the games from that dude... dunno the name right now, who made Battle for Endor and such with Truevision 3D and Visual Basic, those have real good gameplay - but lack detail I wanna make something similar, but with the feel of the movies, if you get me

Edit:

About the viewing space... well of course, the upper part might be stretched up a bit or the lowest area of the cockpit might not be able to be seen much - trying to make something similar to StarLancer - 3D Cockpit

AWESOME!!! I greatly appreciate it!!!!

By the way, forgot about it - exclude the upper cannon, that doesn't go in an X-Wing

Im prety sure that was sarcasm from dark? , If so yeah I noticed when I loaded the model in max, the cockpit really isnt that good... its got the feel of the old ugly IBM machines from yesteryear, with a bunch of useless doohickies and flashing lights. Wouldnt it make way more sense to design the hud to actually suit your game's needs?

Lol... well it was what they did long time ago... and how computers kinda seemed to look

Anyhow, well if you can make one similar where I can display a radar, shield energy & location, targeting system (the main display there), hull, etc... it'd be good too, kinda like X-Wing:

Would be good too
