Started this as part of the DBPro coding challenges thread and I've decided to continue development of it.

So, use this thread to report bugs, give feedback, and make suggestions for additional functionality.

Current version:

Create a square terrain of any size (RAM allowing)

Flexible molding tools to manipulate your terrain.

Rudimentary texture creation and painting.

Save your terrain as a .dbo

Load a previous terrain to continue working on it.

It's not my fault!

That looks awesome!
As for a suggestion, try adding a way to save a heightmap of the terrain.

How do you make that white circle project over the matrix like that?

The white circle is a mesh which is updated each loop with the heights of the terrain underneath it. It's actually a square mesh with a circular texture applied to it.

Height map export is already underway. It'll be a snap actually as the heights are all stored in an array.

Also, it's a bit annoying that it's running full screen mode.

But otherwise really, REALLY cool application!

And I really like the name of it.

Hey McLaine, are you someone else on the forums? I only ask because I don't remember seeing you before that last challenge, where you busted out some super-uber-DBP-master coding. That terrain forming tools is complete mastery. Can I use that to put blood on my terrain?

I've allways been Mclaine.

Had DB since the early days of classic. Stopped coding for a few years and this is when The Game Creators went fully fledged and got this new website and forums, so I've had to re-register. I was around in the hay Days of TDK_Man, KevinPicone, and Indi (All much better coders than me). It was a laff. And back then we didn't have all these fancy new commands that make life so much easier. You guys don't know how good you've got it now.

Blood on your terrain? You mean using the technique I use for my brush and the way it molds to the terrain underneath?

It could be done. Currently it molds to the terrain using the height values stored in an array. But it could be coded to get it's shape by checking the actual terrain. From there it's a simple matter of applying a blood texture to it. Infact, with an animated texture, you could have the blood spread quite realistically. (None of this fluid dynamics mumbo jumbo needed! )

I've got something on at the mo, keeping me busy until after the weekend, but I'll see what I can do after that.

It's not my fault!

Oh, cool. Well, certainly glad to know you.

About the blood on the terrain, when an NPC dies, I'd like to lay a transparent blood texture plain down where they lay. The thing is, I'd like it to conform to the terrain, like your tool does. I think it would be just the thing that I need.

I keep getting "Runtime Error 7008 - Object does not exist at line 907". It has happened once when I changed from wireframe to solid and then tried to raise land. Another time when I was changing from solid to wire. It also happened once when I was going from mold to file. Another time from paint to file. It seems to me like it is being random.

As usual I have to ask if this is just happening to my computer.

I like how the solid view looks now as compared to how it was to begin with. I wish I could test it out more but I keep getting the same object does not exist error.

Insanity is just a state of mind
