hi,

i havnt been very active as usual with the corepak vol. 2 models lately, having entered exams, i cant really do much but revise.

though in the short gaps that were given to me, i chipped away at my current work in progress...

i wanted to create a low-poly knight/armoured warrior type guy for my game, but decided to go further, and maybe actually start on some 'portfolio' or acheivement work, solely based on detail.

of course, its not finished yet, but ive been working on it for a while now:

first one to guess closest polycount gets a cookie

tis' still a lot of work to do, and is pretty hard to work with, what with all the subdivision and all, but its going well

tell me what you guys think of it so far, it will still be a while before i texture it and such, not to mention export the normal map from the high res model to the low-poly for ingame

WAY less detail. That is probably 100,000 pollys at least.

Looks good though, sell it at Turbo Squid for 30 bucks.

Pretty sweet.

Id guess 8k at least. Too much for fpsc i bet, unless you want to watch in slow motion.

If you need a volunteer to rig it up and animate it for fpsc (to see how it looks) Id be happy to lend a hand.

I know, but you can have a bump map with no texture.

Looks like a zbrush model. I think it's around 40,000 polygons.
The only thing I dislike on the model is the unrealistic bump on the clothes.

lol way under, all of you , and your wrong about the bumpmap, in fact its not even a displacement map, all the detail has been brushed on, using ZBrush

i know its too much for FPSC, its pretty obvious, lol, this is a detail mesh, which i can export the normal map onto a 1000 polygon model for FPSC, but this model is purely for detail, every thing you see is in te model.

i cant be bothered to go on and see who gets the closest, lol, it will take too long

the model in the render is somewhere between 600,000 to 700,000 triangles, annddddd way more vertices, lol, the low poly mesh is 1000 something, and is very suitable for FPSC.

i'll try to get a render up of the head later on, its a seeing as the helmet is a seperate object

i would also like to state that this was my first ZBrush project, that program is great, there are still some aspects of it i need to learn...

yeh, it is kinda unrealistic around the thigh's, i was going to scrap it, but i went too far in, i might re-do the thighs ad such, just remember its not actually complete

thanks for the comments guys

Jon Fletcher,

The model is a credit to your effort and endeavour. Anyone can see a great deal of hard work has gone into it and it should certainly be well worth doing for the satisfaction and credibility it brings to you as modeller.

It would be great to see it skinned and I hope if you ever get any version of it into any level and working we would love to see it in action in an appropriate environmental setting which should really show it off.

In fact It should look great if you just skinned it, posed it, set it against any medieval background pic and hung a picture of it on your wall so you can admire it - always.

One of my older friends from college showed us ZBrush, I thought it was great, looked very easy to create very detailed models.

Good work Jon

Whew, that's nice. I've heard Zbrush is THE tool for this type of thing. I'll have to start saving my money.

yep, it is an amazing tool, much easier than 3DS Max's deforrmation brush, and zBrush can handle around 600,000 polygons in real-time....somehow, i think it flattens it after each translation...

it is amazing for adding detail, i plan to use it for future portfolio work, i still need to get a hang of the other brushes though, i just used the default for this one...

Sweet, I'm downloading the demo now. And you did all that with one default tool, amazing...

It's only $500.00. Yeah that's a lot, but I would have figured this would be a multi-thousand dollar piece of software considering the work I've seen done with it.

Still, I won't be able to buy it anytime soon, I recently bought a SpacePilot 3d motion controller (which is AMAZING), so I'm good for a while.

I'd love to see this when its totally done, should be great for your portfolio - maybe you could get some work for the next Narnia movie, hey you never know.

Yeah Zbrush is amazing. Thier forums are also top notch....rubbing elbows with people that have worked on everything from "Underworld 2" to "Guild Wars". Using Zspheres is such an ez way to model.

yeh, i thought so too about the price, i chipped in quite a bit from corepak sales, and a some from elsewhere, tis a great investment,

Quote: "I'd love to see this when its totally done, should be great for your portfolio

lol, aswell as corepak vol. 2, i will be spending alot of my time during the summer making quality models, as when these exams are over, im onto the real world...or atleast more years of college, but thats going to be dedicated to this sort of development anyway. In any case, i will need to build up an art portfolio, i know these things should take time, but i really want a site like that "poopinmymouth" guy where i can host acheivements, sure, corepak models and characters are acheivements, but i need some detailed stuff... which then leads me onto sketching some more

sorry if i sound crazed on this kinda stuff, i just want to progress i suppose...

Quote: "maybe you could get some work for the next Narnia movie, hey you never know."

lol, a long way to go for that, you say youve seen the work done with it, yeh there is some truly amazing things on their forums, i have a long way to go, but this as my first attempt at using ZBrush was quite a nice success
