shhh, it was more recent than the other weapons i got on there. Nobody said it had to be a new model, just a weapon!

also your entry was too late anywho >,>..

i forgot to vote... one second.

I vote for Alpha zero.

even tho im fairlyu certain they do not make 60 cal sniper rifles, it looks nice and is ergonomic. Plus id take a sniper rifle over an SMG any day.

lol, grenade nerds.

I vote for BIGGAAAAAAD cause its a little different, and I'm not one for gun models anyway.

That said, those two rifle looking things were VERY nice.

I only know of three types of grenades, the hand grenade, typical grenade, usually seen on the American/British side of war films, the german hand grenade as seen in war movies and the holy hand grenade as seen in monty python...other than that I am thick when it comes to military crap, simply because I hate guns and explosives, they're for cowards who can't face up to fighting their fellow man unarmed, wars would be solved easier that way, imagine Winston Churchill in a boxing match with Adolf H, or George Bush boxing Saddam Hussien, then if that was the case, Bush wouldn't be president as Arnie would be promoted from gov'ner to President

My vote is worth like 5. Because it is me after all. I'm going to have to be a rebel and go with Insanity Complex. I like the design, it's very stylized and has a western cartoon style to it (like Grimm and Evil or whatever it was called). Although I really did like Armoured Slug's. And Dark Coders'.

Cheers friends *raises glass*

LOL, the thing was my second longest single model project, took me about 5 or 6 hours if you count starting over after the first hour.

Ditto, if model quality was rated, then it would be unfair as only the more experienced would win, these contests are so anyone can win, like our Karate dojo trophies that are given every three months, its the championships that the best actually win, at so far its been Mr Albone two years in a row Who cares if he's a 5th Dan, I'll get him this year

so when's the next one start, and will whoever's won (bigadd i'm guessing) please pick one with a proper poly limit so people are forced to practice in game models? all these no limit compos are dull, and feel out of place on a game programming forum.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

Thanks KeithC and any others that gave me vote or comment, cheers.

Its been a hard choice for me but I think my vote is going to Alpha, I'm not really a gun modeling fan(modern, real etc) but I like the look and feel of this.

Manic: I think these contests should be a mix (poly limit+no poly limit), As personaly I think its good to practice all forms of modeling.
If we're going in the direction of this is a game design/programming forum then you could say high poly models are for the use in cut scenes, normal/displacement mapping etc

Ok, I'll stop! Great contest and great work everyone, also well done Bigadd.

armoured slug: yeah i get what you're saying about cutscenes, but most modern games just use the game's engine, as the models look good enough to carry it.

as for doing it for normal maps, this'd be fine, in fact it'd be brilliant, but i'm yet to see someone make a normal mapped object for these challenges.

i think people need to be challenged more, and having no poly limit basically lets people make a dull, poorly planned model, and then just whack meshsmooth on it (thus making a dull, unplanned high poly model). There's honestly no point in doing high poly, until you can do low poly well.

seriously, this is a games programming community, so why arn't these challenges geared towards that?

I don't have a sig, live with it.

I preffer when a game uses the game engine in cut scenes.

Thanks o everyone who voted for me. There were some realy good entries in this contest.. its good to see more and more people entering each time.

I guess i'll have to start thinknig of a new theme. to a certain extent i agree with manic, and i have been thinknig for a while that we should be doing some low poly stuff... so i may do something around that.

hi poly models are obsolete now unless theyre for baking a normal map. And even now alot of people like to hand paint the normal maps because they know how to fit it to their liking.

I hate to say this but it is VERY strange that bigadd got over 3 times as many votes as most people and 2 times the amount to the runner up. that has never happened before. I guess with the mention of these compos in geek culture ect brought the new faces i have never seen to this board to vote... dunno thats the only way i can explain it.

BigAdd please disallow the use of extremely hi poly models to further challenge the modellers into being more creative with the polys allotted.

Also with a braud topic such as "Weapons" the concepts and ideas never end. there needs to be more of a dfined boundary as to what People can model. this is to narrow down the field of view the voters have as to voting on what model best suits the rule sets, but also this helps the moderllers think of what to do.

ie: people may have voted on

best looking weapon
best concept
best fitting to realistic proportions and rules
best lo poly
best for game use

ect... everyone has their different opinions on what it should take to win, so we need to set a rule for that.

I'm not on the low poly trail as much as others here. Yes, I enjoy and do a lot of low polygon stuff, but I also think Highpoly work definitely has its place in game development. I mean who's gonna do all those nifty Warcraft 3 cutscenes??

That said, making the competitions more definied is a very good idea.

Take it away bigadd!

Why not just do a mix? Both high and low poly have their place, and both havetheir merits. Just let the challenge setter decide.

I judge models on poly-quality ratio, and originality/ideas. That way, I'll vote for who has done the best job, rather than who has made best use of subsurf.

Don't worry I still am happy with both high poly and low poly, people keep saying it is unrealistic because you're not going to use them in games, but members of the 3D community still want to learn the high-poly stuff and yes you do need to do the higher poly 3D stuff if you want to do cut scenes, which lacks in DBP games at the moment.

Good idea, I'll replicate that into the rules/guidelines, people will need a general idea of how to vote whilst editing and adding my own to it, instead of some people blindly voting, I personally don't think Big Add's stood out enough to get a majority that high, although he deserved to win, I can't see a reason why so many thought 'yey! bigadd' rather then 'yey! Dark Coder' or Armoured Slug, Alpha or whoever. But its up to the people how they vote as long as it isn't blindly voted because they like the person better, not voting someone because of their history or comments, voting for them because everyone else etc.

But I'm actually glad that these competitions turned out as well as they did. Were still experimenting with the rules and thigns but they will only get better with time/repetition.

ditto, I mean they have progressed since day 1 and well the first one is disorganised compare to this one, and well, glad all participants have been very 'meh!' about mistakes ('cept the Space ship contest) and well they haven't been big mistakes that effect anyway (except Face of Beauty) But we've managed to get pretty much in order now
