I don't use CS, but all you should need is a modelling program that can export to x or .3ds format, unless you get a converter program that can convert your modelling format to x or .3ds...

as for recommendations: If your broke then Blender is the way to go, wings 3D I hear is ok as well, but you should wait for better responses from people that are actually using CS and what programs they use...
