Hi all,

some may remember me a while back posting the high poly version of the knight, well anyway, i had some trouble exporting the normal maps, i had alot of UV's overlaying others, so i thought id may aswell start with the texture, and then i'll build the high polyversion off of the texture

well anyway, i finished the texture for the low poly version, and i decided to go "detailed" on this one, the model took a few days and (partly due to exams) the texture took a few days aswell... i figured i'd excercise my painting skills, so everything on the texture, was hand painted in photoshop

well anyway, nuff said:

also, a nice little test stance i rendered:

making that stance, lead me to thinking that i can alter the biped extremelly easy by tweening that position for a nice standing still animation which would look pretty darn cool

im quite proud of this, the result of no reference images, pure thought and spending ages, zooming in on the texture and adding the tiny details bit by bit for 3 days straight, lol

i'll sum this up, just thought some might want to see it, i will be using it in my game eventually, and i will also be making a horse for this guy

which brings me to asking you guys, if someone can provide anatomy details and/or reference pictures of any horses, i would be thankful

cheers, hope you like the model, i sure do

EDIT:

forgot to mention, it may not be obvious, but there is a fully textured face under that helmet, and after spending many hourse painting the face, it hardly gets shown, lol, well anyway. i spent alot of time on the face, and im very suprised to say,

my second attempt a face painting in Photoshop:

WAY better than my first! and im beggining to get the jist of it, what i once thought was tricky, is becoming common to me

Not a nuclear bomb but you can make it explodable.Blowing it up really helps even the odds in a four on one fight...as long as I am not near the fork truck when it explodes...lol.

lol, kewl, glad youve made "original" use of it

then overdo the explosion settings, hmm, interesting...

Very nice work once again Jon. All of your work is great. Especially your characters. I find it hard to do face details to guide myself when painting on the UV map (eyes, nose, mouth, and ears especialy). You do an excellent job with this. Do you have any tips or know of any tutorials that could help? Ive been fooling around with alot of my own methods of head modeling, some good, some not so good. Any help is much appreciated.

"

thus, my goal is acheived

i was originally inspired to make a mythical olden day adventure game from the magnificant beauty of Oblivion, and Knights of the Temple, inspired me with that really dramatic olden day war music, so i decided to create this.

i have looked at everything, and its very possible to create the game i want (obviously not interactive RPG NPC's but the fighting side of the game)

Quote: "Do you have any tips or know of any tutorials that could help? Ive been fooling around with alot of my own methods of head modeling, some good, some not so good. Any help is much appreciated."

Im more of a "do what i think looks good next" type of person, and the tools have become common to me, to layout in a tutorial fashion, though i suppose i could give some nice pointers:

Use the connect tool, for self subdividing and adding specific bumps into places like the elbows, much easier than simply scuplting out each vertice on the model using the cut tool. Though you can use the cut tool very well on faces, especially for dividing places and creating polygonal shapes on the face (e.g. eyes, nose etc.)

Also, this is very crucial, keep your polygons running in a natural flow throughout the model, ESPECIALLY the face, it does well to look at some human anatomy pictures, to see the flow of the shape

^^ i dont see that being very helpful, merely tips, and i dont have any tutorials yet, sorry. Though i am actually developing my own forum, in which i will litter with tutorials during this summer

untill then, i can answer specific questions, if you want?

Jon, The turso looks way to long for the legs. Besides from that its great.

So your modelling a horse? Ive wanted to model one my self, but Ive been busy lately, so I havent done so.

hmm, could do, just rotate it onto its belly, lol

but i'll probably just use the skin modifier and bones, there isnt exactly much to go into the aniamtions, basically static, running an walking, aswell as the attack for the guy on top, then thats it ...well maybe a seperate one for a horsearcher, but i probably wont do that...

which reminds me, i need to create an archer character, and a bow weapon...hmm

overload of ideas, lol

EDIT:

@ Higgins

thanks,
must be the perspective, i got a different field of view setting on the camera, and its from above, so thats likely the problem

anyway...

UV mapping a horse is pretty darn tricky, getting under the legs and such with the seams, this is going to be annoying...

Jon, I dont know if it would work, but try multi selecting areas of the uv's on the horse, the fill paint it with a texture. The add some detail. This may stop the seams showing.

i thought id just use planar mapping for the whol thing, it actually turned out very well, as little polygons are actually totally different angles, except the saddle, so that was mapped seperately, im texturing now, looks great so far

Just gotta say that's a class model and an outstanding texture, really like it.

Gives me inspiration to crack on with learning texturing(an area I've not fully got into yet)

Brilliant, look forward to seeing more...

thank you

i just won a texturing competition on psionics forum http://www.psionic3d.co.uk

i won a book, it came earlier today in the post, i have yet to read up on it, but through skim reading it, it has some great techniques, you might wanna check out those forums, for the link to amazon with info on that book, or similar ones, i wouldnt midn getting some more books, i want to study anatomy professionally

it brings me joy to hear that it has inspired you

because its just about to get better, lol:

just finished the horse, with 2 variations, one with armour:

and the bare skin (with a nice celtic tatoo )

heh heh, i wonder what other things i could have enemies ride... elephants, could be a nifty little feature to FPSC wouldnt you say

btw, thats my first ever horse, turned out alright

I like the horse jon, well done.

But I can clearly see that the guy has very small legs. His turso far to big compared to his legs, I mean you dont need to change it if your happy with it, but I dont think it looks right, nor do I think its the angle of which the shot is at.

But good job.

thanks..

yeh, you may very well be right, i'll have another check at it tommorow when i get home, wont be too hard, just some scaling if needed

i still need to study some anatomy of the human body and measurements etc. (for the average person) but all it will really require is getting my base model correct, before starting any character project, i'll set up some references and check it tommorow, thanks for the point out

Zaibatsu,

This is a general comment hopefully for your benefit and others too.

Whats not allowed is clearly spelled out in the TGC Forum rules and guidlines which in themselves are not difficult for anyone to understand.

Other than that personally I am not going to get into lists.

You can cover anything you are unsure of by following the guidance that you should be nice and considerate to your fellow members and respect others opinions and their feelings in all aspects of your posting.

Do not post anything that is likely to be offensive to anyone in any way and think twice before you post if its likely to be so. e.g. no swearing, no verbal personal attacks on other individuals or groups.

If you are unsure about what you want to say - then dont say it.

If you do then to be sure a Mod will make it clear to you if somethings not allowed either by saying so in any thread or by his actions - then you can avoid repeat occurances.

heh heh, thanks Higgins

ya know, if someone wants to list any creatures like that horse which i could have with a character, name it, ive got alot of ideas for this game, a huge array of characters mostly

i think the elephant-back idea was a bit over the top, and it would look strange attacking the player

i will most likely include the horse (with colour and armour variations) in corepak vol. 2, along with the new characters

Looks great; now you have a AAA model with a AAA texture! Also I noticed you didn't go quite so heavy with the Burn/Dodge brush with this one, which (IMO) looks much better.

It exists in my mind Jon. I would make one my self for a game, its just the ultimate sadel backed creature. Maybe I had a nightmare once, with a rhino in it? Heh, any way its a cool thing to add to a game.

Maybe it was jumanji, not a dream. I just like Rhinos, they have tough skin and two very spiky horns. No one will want to be in the way of a very ****'ed of Rhino. Thats why its such a great creature to have.

**EDIT**

Just found the only image of a sadelled Rhino on google:
