Hi. I want to make a simple animated object. Basicall jost a 4-6 frame walk cycle for a low poly character. What file formats are use? What software can be used?

I recall trying to do this last year when I first bought DB, but got frustrated that nothing I did to make my own animated character seemed to work. I have an older version of Cinema 4D that came with a Computer Arts magasive. I even downloaded several shareware or open source programs that import/export (.X) files but nothing seemed to work when I loaded it into DB? There seems to be no documentation on this. Not even a hint as to how to go about doing it. I am sure it can be done as some of the provider demo games do it. It just seems to be a secret as to how it is done. I am not new to 3-D, but I am new to its use in gaming development.

There are 2 options in DBC to load animation:

1) Use an extern program that can export animation with the extensions .X or .3DS. The problem is, that DBC does NOT support bone animation, and even then, there are still always chances that the animation is not displayed correctly. Don't forget that DBC is growing a bit older...

2) Use DBC itself to create your animation. DBC has the ability to load and save its own animation data for an object loaded.
There might be problems with the pivoting points of the limbs, but if you get it all right, you have the same animation if you load it the next time for 100%.

It's the programmer's life:
Have a problem, solve the problem, and have a new problem to solve.

Thanks. I am making some progress, but also still having some problems. I made a simple character with a walk cycle. I made the character in Cinema4D then exported each body part to a separate (.x) file. Then I wrote a DBC program to assemble all the parts together. I load each part as an object, turn the object into a mesh, then attach the mesh to the main body part as a limb. The arms and legs dont bend. It is a very simple character. It seems alot of work and I am sure there is a better way to do it.
