Hey,

just finished the Steyr AUG for Vol. 2

i like this one ALOT, i can see my texturing methods getting cleaner, yet sharper

with arms:

hope you guys like, this ones got a nice texture quite annoying around that weird bolt thing at the end of the front scope support

well anyway, thats that, just choosing what to do next...

I hate that make of gun but i love that model. I'm still not too sure around how dark the arms are (is he meant to be black or white?) but the gun texture in great.

Keep it up
AE
P.S: Can you make a list of all the stuff in core pack 2?

i dont like the gun either, looks ugly, im more into the M4A1 Style guns

but this gun has alot of rep on large games such as counterstrike and is a hit among anti-terrorism...some reason

Quote: "Can you make a list of all the stuff in core pack 2?
"

i'll have to do that a bit later, just gotta group some stuff and see what i need to make

Quote: "I'm still not too sure around how dark the arms are (is he meant to be black or white?) "

err, dark, tanned with dirty fingers i guess, southern europe, not sure, but there will be skin variations for the arms dont worry

yeh, i prefer character design, get to be more original and open with ideas, though the first model i ever made was a weapon, and the way i learnt to where i am now was by repetitive gun remakes (hence why i have so many old crappy guns on my turbosquid account... i really need to update that)

thanks for the comment

just finished one of the custom segments to be included in vol. 2

originally inspired by "hardmans" collection, cant remember his site, some great stuff though, but these ones im making can be for commercial use

hope you like, there will be quite a few more segments to come

EDIT:

you may be thinking, thats the one in the ingame shot above, but with different colours, wrong, the one in the ingame shot, with the gun is from the "hardman" collection, these ones i made were made from scratch using filters in photoshop and blending modes from base textures, i was just trying to get THAT design

There's no harm in imitation especially since you went through the trouble of createing them from scratch. Good job on the likeness.

yeh, thanks, i saw that those textures got alot of good comments in Nigezu's thread in showcase, and some of those people wouldnt mind a commercial version, and i just simply love the look of the "grungy bathroom" style

Hardman is actually a woman! It just kind of surprising that a woman is capable of such gruesome work, I guess I'm a little sexist.

Those segments look great! Looks like you've been reading some of Luke Ahearn's book. I must admit, that is a great book, I've read it cover to cover. Congrats on the texturing contest.

When it comes to modern day weapons I don’t really know what they are, I like the WW2 theme. But in all it’s a great model and texture job Jon. I like the grungy looking room, is it a toilet block or just a really dirty lobby?

"

thanks, was a fun contest, lol, me being the new guy on the forums, and i won first place, lol, psionic even signed the book, lol

one page of the book that inspired the flooring was an example of how he turned a checkered pattern into a grungey floor tile with a few photo overlays, such as a sauce for the specular shine, cracked stucco for the tile material, and a dark grunge pattern, like what i done for my tiles, though i did something he didnt, and used accented edges, to rough up the seams between tiles

you got that book too? pretty cool aint it? i mean, yeh, it is all basic flat textures and doesnt go in depth to painting or any art besides geometry, but its pretty great what he shows you can do with basic layer styles and blending modes.

Theres alot of filter work in that book aswell, i could never remember all those steps, which is why i prefer straight painting, but this was a good book to set up some decent base textures for later

Quote: "Hardman is actually a woman!"

hmm, interesting, lol, though i can see the evidence from the fine detail, women tend to spend more time on detail and get things perfect (no offense) and it looks great

Quote: " is it a toilet block or just a really dirty lobby?"

looking back is does look like a nice grungey lobby, like something out of an old apartment with many floors. Suppose both really, depends what fills the room

thanks for the comments guys, civil servants soon, once i get some decent reference pics

sorry to go off topic but in this book, what programs do they cover? Im (your gonna laugh) still useing the Micrographics picture publisher that I got with my first serial port scanner-circa 1994-1995, lol. I think I need to update

it covers the use of Adobe Photoshop CS2, although i have version 7, its still the same concept, a demo comes with the book, if you want to follow the activities, yet dont have the full software

ive never used micrographics picture publisher, so i wouldnt know what its like, but from your expressions, i should guess its old, if your looking for something like photoshop, for free, try out "The GIMP" its built solely around photoshop, i could never use it, i hate the interface

Thanks, That's my problem I hate the new interfaces. I have Painshop pro, but I only use it for stuff I can't do in micrographics. Micrographics was bought out and kind became Photoshop so maybe it would be a good investment.

ok, ive finished the mp5, cant be bothered to make a new thread, it isnt as good as the steyr aug, but still looks pretty good, heres the renders:

with hands:

just a few more on the weapons now... there may not be any scifi in this pack, they might be preserved for a later pack, the planned content in this one seems reasonable anyway, i shouldnt go too far, with too much things, it would end up too expensive, better to leave the scifi weapons and such for later on

unless heavily demanded

hope you guys like the mp5

lol, 2 identical comments, thanks, im glad you like

i dont know if anyone has noticed, but im using a new anti-aliasing filter for my renders, personally ive always hated antialiasing, it even blurs the textures, which isnt exactly good, but now im using the Catmull-Rom filter for my renders, preserving the sharpness of the textures

I'm definately buying this! I don't care what my common sense tells me!

Although it seems to me that the hands are posistioned a little loosely on the mp5. maybe tighten the grip a little...

depends really, whether your doing high poly model work or simple art, but in this case, i would have to say it takes longer to UV map and texture, modelling on the other hand is more fluent and basic shapes, whereas texturing you must go into fine detail

Nice weapons! but the in the mp5, the part where you hold the weapon with your right arm should be more... well, fat. Too bad the pack wont be free but that would be abit silly. .
to bad i cant pay over internet too, if i could i would buy a gun!

lol, thanks in advance yeh ive been spending alot of time on my texturing lately, after figuring out that a model is nothing without a great texture, so i hooked off to psionic's forums for a while

yeh, the proportions may be off, just remember, all the time im putting the hands on these weapons is just for a quick test, when i go to do the real thing and animate them, i'll fix all the minor errors
