Let me try my hand at a basic hud making tutorial.
I will use Gimp as the program simply because that is what I use.
First, you want to fire up the Gimp.
Left click on File and then on New.Pick the length and width of your hud and click on OK.
Choose a color by left clicking on Dialogs and then on Colors.
Then left click on tools/paint tools/bucket fill to make your hud the color you picked.
Then left click on tools/selection tools/rect select to select a rectangle.
$Make a rectangle where you want the number of lives you have left to be.
Then click on layer/mask/add layer mask.
Click on selection/invert mask/ok.
Then left click layer/mask/apply layer mask then left click anywhere to select none.
Go back to the "$" above and repeat for the lives.
Change the foreground color by clicking on dialogs/color.If not your text will be the same as your background color and you won't see it.
Now click tools/text.
Left click somewhere around your first box and type in "LIVES". Hit ENTER and then close the text box.
Left click somewhere around your second box and type "HEALTH".Hit ENTER and close the text box.
Note:If you are displaying something other than lives or health then type that.
Then left click on file/save as.Call your hud whatever you want.Just make sure it ends with .dds.Then save it where you want to save your hud.
You have just made a hud.

Thanks FredP, and just a question, why did you change your name, probably because it sounded dumb, right? (no offence)

You're welcome,guys.
I changed my name because I am a mod now and most mods use their first name and first initial of their last name.
There are exceptions,of course.
I had been thinking about changing my forum name for a while anyways.

You probably need the Gimp .dds plug in.
If you google "Gimp dds plug in" you should find it.
Then download it and install it in the proper place in your Gimp files.
You might check to make sure you have the latest version of the Gimp.I think it has the .dds plug-in already built in...but I could be wrong.

Alex Just Do It,
If your going to be using FPSC for something other then what it's intended...like adding your mods and not using it as a point and click, how bout you open up a few files from each of the folders and see how the game runs.

Saying a Hud dimension is useless. Most people make the kinds that go in corners, others like the ones that are full screen( like either the top or bottom). Its really up to you. Till you get in the FPSC folder and rut around like a pig for a few, you'll have no clue what is going on.

................Edit..................
Now for you guys who can not figure out how to get the plugin into gimp so you can save your file as a .dds file, candles is right you can save it as a png file also and that should work.... but another way to get your .dds file is to save your file and use a program like this .dds converter 2 to convert it. Here is the link to this program http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=95361&b=23

Have you downloaded your CLiPs today.
