*sigh*

Finally, a game completed. Well, almost...

Sam's Gem Hunt

Introduction

Sam's Gem Hunt, my first complete game, features one of my favourite creations, Sam the duck. As he tries to return to earth and escape planet Kord, an undiscovered planet neighbouring Neptune known for its maze-like structure (Uh,known?.)

Storyline
Sam, a poor duck has been kidnapped by aliens for chemical tests to be run on him, to make sure the humans’ pets are harmless to them when its time for invasion (yes as usual.) But this time its real, and Sam cannot get back to Earth and warn the others unless he can reach the transporting machine, which needs nine special gems, each with its own unique power. While searching, Sam finds himself trapped in a huge maze that consists of many smaller mazes; each contains one of the nine gems. And now, as any storyteller would say: Can you help Sam work his way out of the mazes and collect all nine gems?

-Completed
-Working on
-Might come/haven't started yet

Correct rendering of scene
(Automatic) 3rd Person Camera (Now with a toggle feature for Automatic and normal 3rd Person Camera)
Camera/Controls Engine
Game Menu
Collision Engine
In-Game Minimap (Just for you, TGC )
Level 1 completely
Aaand some other mini things concerning the above.
Some ingame music(Still working on it though)

Animation
Another 8 Levels (mazes)
Timer()
"Goto_Nextlevel" Function (you get the idea)
Some ingame banners (Level Complete,gameover,etc)

Sound Effects with collision
Gold Tokens or coins to be collected (a minimum number needed to pass the level, together with the time limit... Pure Challenging
)
Cinematics (not that complicated lol, Simple 3d zoom-in's and stuff to give a video-intro effect)
An End Movie (Might try.. But I dont promise you guys)

Here is the early demo link. With all the (Completed) things.
EDIT: Sorry,re-working the demo

Enjoy....

Oh! The screenies:

He got mad of the heat so..

Just a warning. Apparently your NGC Collision serial code is in the source. You really should remove it.

Umm... You do realize that you basically pay for that serial code? That serial code makes NG Collision full version... When you downloade the NG Collision demo, all that isn't included is a working serial code, because a valid serial code makes the full version of NG Collision. Without a valid serial code, the dll will only have a time limit. When that time limit is reached, the collision will stop working. Use a valid serial code, and the collision will have no time limit, which makes up the full version. So by including your serial code, you're handing out a full version of NG Collision for people who dare to use pirated software.

very nice dude. The collision doesnt work tho.. every time i get the gem it goes back to start menu. well thats what wip is for tho right?

The music is great, really sets a fun theme and only thing i would suggest on that is maybe put it on loop. unless you plan on getting difrent music files in.

last is the controls/camera, it reverts back to its original position unless ur press forward. not really a problem right now but might want to look into fixing that.

overall pretty good game lol. the duck is awesome. good luck!

Yes that's what's supposed to happen, hopefully wont be in the final release, but it is a WIP afterall as you said.

Quote: "The music is great, really sets a fun theme and only thing i would suggest on that is maybe put it on loop."

Yea the track is supposed to be 2 min 44, and as I said ill try to add a timer which is like 1 min, so a loop wont be needed. Ofcourse, different timer lengths for different levels. And YES, there will be different tracks for each level.

Quote: " last is the controls/camera, it reverts back to its original position unless ur press forward. not really a problem right now but might want to look into fixing that."

Um, yes that wasnt an error, Its actually something that took me about a week to figure out, turns out its pretty simple. I want the players to be able to see the character when the rotate the mouse only, As I think the back of the duck alone looks too improfessional. But if most of you dont like it, Ill keep that version for me, and make a TGC-wanted version for the game

That's what everyone says, thanks!

Always lock it to 60, even if you have timer based movement - those things can be fiddily at times.

Got it. What do you think of it so far?

What you can expect in the final release so far:

-Minimap wont show much of the map anymore, only the area surrounding you.

-A countdown timer for each level

-Different tracks for each level

-My fault, I wont make any more eazy mazes for ya guys.

I'll download the demo later when I have more time to give some proper crit.

It looks nice though, but I think you should make the walls higher-a maze isn't much fun if you can see where you're going.

I don't know if you already plan on using some but have you thought about simple puzzles?

Bahamut:
So far everyone that's tried it thinks its really easy, I originally had the walls much higher than that, with no minimap. I found it difficult myself and decided that the first maze I made (featured in the first post) would be the (boss) maze. Then I made the minimap and rescaled the maze, and now its a little lower so that you can sort of see the area around you, through both views. Im thinking zooming in the minimap view, check my last post (above).

I updated the demo link, it works now, or just go to:

Please try to remember that the game is NOT complete so refrain from asking me to make more levels as im already working on them .

I personally think the minimap helps out the player alot, but as I said twice before, ill try to make the players more dependent on themselves and less on the minimap (I shall zoom in a bit more.)

Keep 'em comin!

Thanks, please tell me if I should keep the cam as it is, or make it plain 3rd person so you guys only see unfortunately-without-realtime-lighting Sam's quite-boring-alone back.

Note that I wanted the player to see Sam, and not only its back, hey, that's why you loved the screenshots in the first place didnt ya? And y'all are already fans of Sam, so you Should like the cam the way it is.

Comments pls.

Very nice!
Now some for comments.
I think that you should make the camera mouse controlled or, as you wrote before,
Quote: "make it plain 3rd person so you guys only see unfortunately-without-realtime-lighting Sam's quite-boring-alone back"
.
The way the camera is now is just confusing.

And after I cleared the maze I started a new game and I began to walk away from the maze, when I got to the skysphere I turned around and began to walk back again. When I came back to the maze this happened: no collision! [See screenshot]

That was the only things that I noticed, otherwise great story and funky music! And a wonderful !
KUTGW!

Fine, and I'll make the current automatic camera toggeled (Ill just make some key for switching between View 1 and View 2 or something, I didnt stay a week in that camera thing for nothing you know.) But dont worry, ill make the plain 3rd person camera the default.

Quote: "When I came back to the maze this happened: no collision! [See screenshot]"

Sorry about that, Im working on it now. I was concentrating on that level first; but I remember collision working with me first time I tried it, but thanks for telling me, Ill work on it.

So far I haven't heard anything about you guys not ok with the fact that Sam is practically hovering on grass. But dont worry, Ill add animations.

Thanks zzz for appreciating the game, um no offence to what you guys where thinking, but Sam is not a penguin (originally was supposed to be a black crow) But I messed up and turned it into a duck, then i thought it looked good, so I gave it some Daffy features (notice the neck) and colored it (no texturing yet) as if it was a penguin. But hey, I think he/she/it/them is good that way.

Umm, I think you used Clickteam Install Creator incorrectly. The only entry I see in the Programs menu is the Uninstaller.

Also, I think a game in progress shouldn't have an installer, just a ZIP or RAR file, and when the full game comes out, that's when you should use an installer.

In addition, the camera is really bad. It keeps switching to some random camera angle when I stop, and there's no strafing controls.

Yes, I agree with FoxBlitzz with both of his statements.

I hate using installers, I would much rather use zips or rars instead, and the camera is really annoying. It should follow right behind the player instead.

No offence but dude, take it easy, I already said I will fix it. Its done now, Im just not releasing any other demos till the full version

As for the installer thing, it was my first go at using em, so I thought of using it, also, the game's icon should be in the directory you chose, dont worry,I AM aware that only the uninstall icon is in the start menu. Dont worry, wont happen in the Final Release... So you guys think the duck is awesome too?

Ive made many good models, why is it that my favourite is also yours?

cool! I was going to use that minimap idea sometime too... (yes I know how you did it... multiple cameras) Oh, and one thing:

I think it's a bug in Nuclear Glory Collision DLL...

After a while, the collision completely shuts off. Has anybody else had this problem?

I doubt you can draw me/60 by hand, so you REALLY can't draw ME/1, can you?

Dudes I swear I fixed that problem!!

Thanks alot for the good comments, now ill work 500% harder.

Please suggest what you would like to see in the full release besides the following:

-A (close-call) timer
-Mazes getting wierder and wackier (think of gigantic mazes, and pit traps.
-3 lives for each level (please state if it should be 3 for every New Game you start)

-Animation (running cycles)

-More good music.

-Realistic rendering (realistic in a cartoony way)

Im thinking also to provide a secret code for every few levels (one every two levels maybe?)But in that case, I'll have to make more than 9 levels, or I can just delete the whole idea and finish them 9 levels .

I figured out why the collision shuts off! You need to have the serial code in your code, or else it thinks you're running the DEMO version of NGC. So, include the serial code in your source code, but DO NOT give us your source code, just the EXE and the media if needed. Anyway, how is this coming along? DID YOU QUIT?

I already fixed that about 2 months ago!

And no its not because I dont have a serial in it, there's a serial, it was another prob, but I fixed it now. My problem is still with NGC, the code is ignored and nothing seems wrong in the code, even The NGC Forums arent helping!

Think you ace in NGC? Email me at... Ahh im not gonna say it anymore. But if you do come up with a tip that just might solve my problem, Ill give you credit. Just like Xeno here

If you where polite in your question and didn't expect us to work out your prob for you, we can only guide you in the right direct. After seeing the way you used the function with the brackets before the parameters etc... Oh and don't share you serial out.
