I'm having real trouble loading .3ds files into DB Pro for some reason?
Load them in to program but get error message every time? saying file does not exist this just happens on .3ds models please help

If you are using Patch 4, its because .3ds has been temporarily disabled until patch 5 because to allow time for dbs to get it fully working with the new .dbo system. However, if you convert your .3ds to .x you should have no problems

Yes I am using patch 4 thx for that but how do you convert to .X format please?

can't you reload it into something like milkshape and then re-export into a .x format? i can't remember, not at my computer now.

if you want to convert your .3ds into .x you can use the .x file converter that came with dark basic (that is if you have dark basic!!!) [img][/img] im not sure if the converter is available for download.

I have a word of advice...
..don't piss on an electric fence!

Thx guys Milkshape works a treet!!

Although I feel we need patch 4.1 pretty quick as this shouldn't happen, on my box for DB Pro it say in black and white that it will load .3DS files!!!!!

Also still can't get my own icons to work on stand alone .exe programs DB keeps putting it's own icon on!!!!

Not profesional guys! Maybe have to call it DB again instead of DB Pro!

?????

On the download page for patch 4, I think it states that 3DS, MDL, MD2, MD3, etc., don't work in patch 4 but will again in patch 5. The only object format that is supposed to work with patch 4 is .X

I don't like it, but I use 3D Canvas LP and it's the same amount of work to make a .3DS file with it as it is to make a .X file, so it doesn't really bother me much.

As far as converting .3DS to .X, there is a program that comes with the DirectX 8 SDK "Extras" called CONV3DS.EXE. It's a stand-alone, command-line program. You might be able to download it off the 'net if you hunt for it (if Milkshape expires or whatever). The DX SDK (even just the "Extras") is huge.

its annoying as i believe we were waiting for patch4 so long because they were adding 3ds support

just wish i could get my dang hands on DBO already
seems so painful waiting for this format, i mean they can't possibly be changing it that much can they??

icons onto .exe's.... Microangelo and a ton of other solutions await for you to descover them...

.3ds support. Even patch 3 failed to load them on our Voodoo3 system here so I can't say it's a big loss.

Converting 3D File Formats....

If you are serious about programming then you should seriously consider 3D Exploration Enterprise Edition from Right Hemisphere (http://www.righthemisphere.com/3dexploration). It'll convert anything and the enterprise edition will handle animation too (although .mdl to .3ds/.x format animation does not convert).

Sadly the schmucks had a bit of a revamp a few months ago and renamed it and put the price up Luckily for me I registered before they did, although now i'll never be getting an update again (and to think it promised lifetime upgrades for this product .... they just gave it a new name and so it wasn't same product anymore )
