Hi

I'm using 3ds max 7 and was all into until I tried to export an .*x model. I used panda exporter but when it loaded into DBP it looked screwy. This didn't happen until I put bones in it. When loaded, the parts of the mesh who's verticies are not associated with my bones dont appear. In addition to that, part of the leg is stretched all the way to the bottom left corner of the screen

Perhaps my settings for panda exporter are not correct? If someone who knows their models work can share their settings, it would be appreciated. Any other suggestions are welcome too!

Thanks guys
Manic

if you used the 'skin modifier' panda stuffs up. use the physique modifier that comes with character shop

if you havn't got that... erm you're stuck.

it's a really annoying bug, i think the skin modifier is much better than physique.

I don't have a sig, live with it.

That happens from time to time, i helped someone whith that same problem some time ago. Basically it had the pivot from the object screwed up, then the bones and skinning had to be redone.

Btw, it can be done with the skin modifier, and also with physiques. But using physique has some advantages.

ok I'll try that I've only boned a leg so far so it doesn't matter if I restart boning and skinning. Yeah I have physique. I guess using that will fix it? If it doesn't I wil tell you Because it worked fine until I added skin and bones

Well I guess because it is a popular program
I heard about it because of courses of it from my school. You can buy it straight from autodesk or sometimes they're a bit cheaper if you get them from Ebay or Amazon.

Sorry if this was off topic...

Okay. I applied physique and it loaded successfully. However, when I tried to put some animation, Panda wouldn't export. It would say "Major Error" and crash. Could this be because I wasn't using biped? I just put a bone under "float bones", moved it abit and tried to export to test, but it crashed.

@Zergei
How did you manage to fix it? Can you explain a bit more? It seems to work fine till I add animation.

Basically, when i start the bone process, i begin by creating the bones for the model, but i don't aplly any modifier to it yet. I work around it until i find it ok. I then export it just to make sure everything is ok. Here is where some problems appeared, the model appeared rotated 90° regarding the bones. This was because the pivot of the object was manipulated some time ago, so by reseting it solves. That is what often screwes models.

After that i add the skin/physique modifier and do a quick skinning of it, making sure every vertex is set to a bone. I export it once more to make sure everything is ok. I do a simply animation, such as lifting a leg or arm, or whatever, export it and check the results. If it turned out ok the animation, i continue on skinning it in a more in depth way. However, some times you'll find error with the animation, such as stretching arms. This, as far as i saw, was done because the bones were scalled in an improper way. The proper way to do so is with the properties that come with the bone itself, and not using the scale tool. Another thing is having in mind the pivot of the bone when scalling, if you want to affect child bones or not.

Thats all i can remember for now. Physique has the advantage you can save the skinning you've done, so if something went wrong, then you can reload it after fixing, say the model or the bones. However, i don't like using physique on simple models, as it sometimes does oddities, i'd rather use it with biped in a character.

Hope you get that working out soon...

Do you have to use biped with physique?

Edit: I got the bones and everything in and assigned all the vertices to them. It works perfectly except when I try to animate. When I animate, it doesnt move in DBP but moves in 3ds. Perhaps my options are wrong in Panda? I'll try again tommorow... sometimes my computer just acts weird when its been on for a long time...

This is the settings i use, make sure to adjust the exporting frames (in the second window) acording to your animation. Mesh and bones must be exported as one.

You can use biped or bones with physique, its quite the same, but if your to use biped, your better of with physique.

Maybe its part of your code, or some oddities on DbPro. Try reinstalling it if the codes is ok.

ok. I'll try that... my code is correct for sure because animated models made in Milkshape (when I used to have the trial) worked fine.

Edit: I did that. Still no luck

Ok i figured out that whenever dBP tries to delete the model, it crashes. This is only when animation is in the *.x file. Can someone please tell me how to fix this? If not, could you tell me an alternative plugin for 3ds max 7?

I've never had such problem. If you don't mind lending me the model and code, I could have a look at it and see if it also happens here.
