I have a question, because I cant seem to find it I have decided to ask here. Is there any program that allows you to "apply" light to the MODEL with the texture on it and it applys the light there onto the texture?
This is somthing I have been thinking about for a few days which would be very helpful.
(If what I said was confusing I can retype it.)

Do you mean lightmapping? if so I think you can do it in 3ds max(but its called texture baking I think). But I know other programs can do this too.I use deleD for level design sometimes and it has the ability to do lightmapping which is what I believe you meant.Anyway try deleD lite its pretty easy and can do some object modelling too.Plus it has a basic lightmapper and can export to .dbo and if you like it update to pro for some more features. Again there are definately other packages that can do this(more model oriented). Im just not positive which ones.hope this answers your question.

From the sounds of things you are looking for a technique called 'baking' where by the render differences is applied straight onto the model's texture, like in these examples;

As far as I know the only two programs that do this is Cinema 4D 7 and above (with the baker plugin which the plugin is free, I think it comes standard with vers. 9)

or the freebie alternative

Blender, blender is perfectly capable of 'baking' in fact the image about was done in Blender, and here is a link to the tutorial;

Or you can just render an image from the front, sides, back, top, and bottom, and use the renders as a box mapped UV. That's what I do sometimes.
