Is anyone aware of a directx IMPORTER for blender that actually works? Took me all morning to find one and it doesnt import textures . All I want to do is scale some objects, so I dont care if the importer kills animation data (since they arent animated).

Also, I found a directx EXPORTER (lost the link, but I found it while searching these forums) that claims it does animation. Thats cool, but the one thing I really want is a way to export vertex COLORS. Does anyone know of a way to export vert colors? Maybe im crazy, but it seems like if you could use the neat 'blender vertex paint tool' to paint your verts, you could easily weight different parts of your model, so only certain parts will wave in the wind (vertex shader). Is there a better way to do this without vert colors?

Its Difficult to find those sorts of things. The Direct X format is only realy for games and software like blender 3ds maya etc dont usualy import that file. I know C4D doesn't. Usualy the formats for laoding files into the program is .3ds or .obj somehing like that. hope u find what your looking for. My suggestion though if you dont have any real luck is that u find urself a converter... so i converts .X into .3ds or something.

That sucks, but I guess I could always convert everything to/from 3ds when I import/export. Arent there good direct x to 3ds converters out there?

So can anyone like a good x to 3ds converter? Something that will retain all texture data (ooh vert colors would be nice too), ect..

Then of course im gonna need a 3ds importer/exporter for blender... Damn palm trees! Why dont you just stay scaled when I save you from inside dbpro!

I bought a model pack the other day, and it has just about every format under the sun. Mdl, 3ds, obj, b3d, mtl, and more... even "Dbo" (although it must not be dark basic, because it wont load). So is there a better importer/exporter for one of these?

Although I still need away to convert whatever format BACK to directx after I monkey with it in blender...

bender obviously supports *.X import export since later versions , but you got to install python scripting runtime before using the imp/export scripts , check www.python.com and www.blender3d.org for more details

A program is sensed to be a conventional mean to give orders to a computer and not being obscure, weird, and full of traps ,that is closer to magic stuff (Dave Small).

Rofl I dont think thats the official python site (dont click it kids!)

Anyway, you say there is a 100% working directx importer exporter for blender? I did a search just last week and everybody on this forums said directx support for blender was trash.

Im a python/blender noob, can you point me twards what I need? Went to blenders site and couldnt find anything about directx

*edit

well I found a .x EXPORTER on the blender site, now to find a importer. The fact that they didnt link a importer on the same page as the exporter scares me... I hope youre right tho, it would be a pain to have to convert all my models to 3ds just to fix their scale...

GAWD! So I downloaded the latest version of blender, and the directx importer/exporter from here..

http://www.ben.3rdimension.co.uk/

..which claims it does EVERYTHING. Well, it doesnt. When I import a model (that looks fine from directx viewer), it doesnt apply the texture. So I reapply the texture (luckily it does load the uv coords), scale it down, then export it. It loads into dbpro at the correct size, but now the normals are jacked up! I tryed shift n and shift ctrl n, neither worked, the normals seemed Wayyy too big inside dbpro (lit polygons were solid white, and flickered).

I dont know how you artists put up with this crap!

So I decided to just say screw it. Im gonna manually scale down the frame transform matrix by hand, inside notepad. Ahh good old notepad, you have never let me down...

sorry but in fact it was
http://www.python.org

you just have to install the python scripting interface
at the root of your hard drive like c:python

and the latest version of blender , it should work !

otherwise , check 3D exploration on google
