Could anyone please help me, I want to make my own 3D models but I don't know what the best software I should buy (I'm a total noob)

Don't buy any. Try wings3d or blender as they are both free

also try the demo versions of some others to get a feel for the different interfaces associated with the software...

I started out with milkshape ($30) then tried many many other trial versions and eventually broke out the AMEX card for Max 8, thinking of maybe getting maya or z-brush next...

@heckno: if you're thinking of buying more software, i'd suggest zbrush over maya, as max does what maya does and you have it already.

or better still look up sharp construct as a free (but obviously not as good) version of zbrush

I don't have a sig, live with it.

@Manic: I was thinking of getting maya more for the animation toolset, z-brush would be an easier purchase and loads more fun if I ever transition into hi-poly stuff...

will look into sharp construct,
