here is an image of my aquarium project, it was rendered in DBP and resized in Photoshop. All the models were made in max, while the textures were made in Photoshop. I would say the whole project is about 10% complete.

not bad.

Id say maybe some normalmaps on the ground would make a big difference.

actually normal maps on everything would.

looking great for "10%"

normal maps!!! that's a great idea, I've started reading a normal map tutorial, and will be installing all the plugins and extra software.

I will start with the gravel; because i'm so new to normal maps it seems like the easiest area to begin.

Looks very nice. It was a project that I once wanted to do, but had a game element as well. Can't wait to see the fishies!!!

Oh and use a gobo to make the water-ish shading like light refracting through the water. That'll look nice. Well done

@ oddmind
thanks for digging up the tuts, its some deep stuff... well for me anyway.

heres the gravel with a normalmap and EVOLVED's .fx

as you can see from the image below, I am having a bit of trouble loading the texture map while applying the normalmap. The problem occurs once ( set object effect ) is used.

@Pincho Paxton
I too thought about adding some type of game to it, but that would be a big commitment. As for the fish, they should be fun to model and animate.. i'm looking forward to that part.

@The crazy
Im going to shoot for some good lighting, perhaps when the time comes i'll look in to purchasing dark lights. I'm not sure if its capable. Or maybe just use shaders

Well I'm off to look further into the texture map issue.

When you put the fish in, give them some AI. Have them chase each other, feed etc. Then it could be like a nice relaxing screen saver. Its looking good! For shaders I would suggest looking in the "Ultimate Shader Pack" in the WIP forums.

Buried boat looks cool! Although it looks like the sea now with the smaller gravel.

That's exactly what i was thinking. I've been caring for fish for about 15 years, moved into small condo and didn't have enough room. So I decided to make em... can't wait I think im going to start with some community fish, then move on to some larger predator fish...

The lighting is nowhere done.. but than again my pc always produces darker images on other pc i've tested on... so i'll keep an eye on it.

yes the gravel is smaller. When I applied the normal map the tile was much more obvious, so i busted open photoshop and made an image double the size, tiled the texture over the image, then used clone stamp and offset until pretty. While fixing the tile I had to remove alot of the larger stones due to being too obvious.

...you know i must be blind. i didn't even notice the wip forum. sorry if i posted in the wrong forum

[edit] my f:/ crashed all my source code, models, and texture are gone... grrr
