Nobody (practically) say whether their post is DB or DBP. Can't the MODs enforce this?

could help 'enforce' the idea by not offering responses/assistance to those who don't offer DB version... <shrugs>

i've offered help without knowing which version, spent time generating code, making references, etc, only to find out they have DBC (I have DBP) and felt like a fool when they respond with "that doesn't work! i have DBC!". it was my fault for assuming, so... i mean, it is a NEWCOMER forum and you can't really rely on newcomers to know all the rules. you know most people install software and dive right in without reading the rules. same thing happens here.

IMO people should assume they're using DBP if they dont state otherwise. They should either say DBC or get with the times and get DBP, we aren't obligated to make code work for DBC.

Why not have a drop down for new posts?

Every new post in certain forums (programming forums) you would have to select what language you where talking about.

until they dont select it, or miselect it.
it happens all the time in the programming forum where theres a droplist for the languages

I would have maybe a warning system them. Warnings last a week, and will always show on your record so when people view your profile they can see if you can follow rules or not.

It would help in team requests as well as people are posting them agian.

Just my 2 cents

Why don't we just beat it out of them?

Maybe they could just be locked if they don't say what language they use? Like in the wip board where you need screens? You could post a topic and sticky it saying that it will now be inforced with locks in a few days. They you can say "We said that we will now inforce it. Its your fault that you aren't aware enough to see the sticky, so " if they complain.

Not hard to miss really is it, first time on the forum, seeing what otheres post and that is staring u in the face .. id say a fair few ppl are just a tad on the dumb side. i always say im using DBC, tried a demo of DBP sumit bout it dint quite sit with me. *shrugs* probs upgrade once i've beaten the crap out of DBC and reached its (or my) potential.. am curently working on pong .. decided i bit off more than i could chew, mite give up on my prog for the text compo as well .. i even had a sweet text animation going that changes color n everything was well proud of myself

It's not that it's a big deal or anything. Just when it's clearly posted at the top of the forum to the sticky then you think people might be obliged to follow the evident rules. Besides, it takes a little while for me to open up a post since I've got dial-up for the moment and I don't like having to waste time with DBP questions when I'd rather be trying to help with DBC ones. There's also the possibility of answering a question you think might be DBC but is DBP. It's a matter of following a VERY simple rule...

If you've got DBC, then there should be no problem helping people with DBC or DBP problems. Pretty much all of the commands from DBC are in DBP, so any help you offer will still be viable unless for the extremely slim chance you're using a command no longer existant in DBP.

If you've got DBP, you can still provide the same help to a DBC question while thinking its DBP. If you happen to suggest something that DBC doesnt support, there are many work arounds people have found (Sparky's replaced Intersect Object for instance). So once again, no problem giving DBP-related help to a DBC question, it doesnt take much time to convert DBP code to DBC.

Thanks, RUCCUS, I didn't know that (about DBPro having the commands of DBC).
