Dear All,

I am a complete novice in the use of shaders, but I know that there is considerable talent on this board.

Over on the newcomers board, someone was asking about a flashlight effect, and General Reed posted a link to a Vector3D thread with a flashlight shader that Evolved has created for DBP. Here is the thread and the flashlight shader

Now, I followed the thread and several people, including myself, simply got black screens, but on a whim, I compiled on my computer at work, which although faster than my machine at home only has a graphics card that supports PS2 and VS2 - (I think), while my home machine supports level 3 shaders, and it worked and looked good!

My challenge, if anyone want's to take it up (Please do!) is to get the flashlight fx working on a level 3 shader graphics card (mine is a GeForce 6600GT).

Please help!

**bump**

Your mission, should you choose to accept it...

I guess there are no members of the IMF here on the forum?

Can anyone suggest why this doesn't work on my better graphics card?

Cheers

I just get a black screen using a PS2 and VS2 card (nVidia GeForce FX 5200 128M).

Might be better to solve that problem before worrying about Shader 3.

Interesting! So it seems to be random as to what cards it works on!

I think I'll have to test it on one of my own levels.

Thanks Gandalf

Evolved's flashlight shader? The one in the ultimate shader pack?

Works fine with a x600 (ps2.0 + vs2.0)

Yes - just downloaded the latest version of the pack (what a resource!) and tried the flashlight again in case there was a problem with the earlier code. Still the same black screen whatever buttons I press. (I think the code could be a bit more user friendly - what on earth are you supposed to press to get keystate(33)=1?? I guess it's "f".) Are you supposed to see something if you don't touch the keys or mouse? The latter is virtually impossible if you use the mouse to start the application.

I get an fps of 38 which suggests something is happening ...

Yes! Thank you. I'll study the code to see what's changed - I'll be back if I can't spot it.

Just downloaded Freddix's ultimate shader pack today - great stuff.

Yep - Evolved you definately are further up the evolutionary ladder than I am!

Thanks very much!

Works with integrated nvidia 6100 as well. 60fps...not bad for integrated graphics.

I downloaded the .zip, unzipped, opened the .dbpro, and hit F5, no changes, and got this. I can clearly see that the .dds exists, but it still gives me this...
