hi my first time here.
been making alot of first person games for the family and friends over a couple of months now.
was hoping to make an arena game but cant get it run.
can get into game but no connection between games.
tried hamachi.cc but cant get it to run on she who must be obeyed's comp.
tried turning off firewalls but no go.
yes have been thru faq and i think who ever tells people to use them should try them first there really helpful to start with but as you want to learn more there not.
ok story time is over now
can anyone tell me a good if not free but cheap server that is firewall friendly plz.
thx for help in advance from an old bloke

Ok Mr.OldBloke your about to be helped out by a 15 year old!

1st off - Are you running the verson from the CD? If your still running the download link verson then it wont support arena mode (I know from experience).

2nd - (Sorry if I'm repeating what you've been told but...) Have you built the game on the "Arena" setting and not "Single player"? If you've built it in single player then you need to click the tab in preferences saying its a multiplayer game.

3rd - Test out your game over a network. When I make an arena game I test it out over my network so I know it works.

You don't need a server as the game sets up the "host" as the server.

Don't know about any cheap servers, but I'd say not to buy one because FPSC doesn't support them that well.

@Netdemos - I am asking this because I have trouble with the multiplayer, and I think you may have just hit on something others are having the same trouble with.

I am also running the downloaded version I purchased, and can't get anyone to be able to join my multiplayer game ( which is why I gave up on it). What is different between the download version and the cd version?

I know it has nothing to do with firewall/router ( been dealing with them for over 15 years on a corporate level), so I know them inside and out pretty much.

If you have info on the differences between the 2 would be intersting to hear what it is.

Yeah.

Simply when I was running the verson I downloaded the multiplayer wouldn't work.

Unistalled it and reinstalled it using the CD and it worked. It may be something about the coding or something... can't work it out myself - but its worth a go.

Just a couple of quick questions:
before fpsc came out, didn't they have this special online arena game as a kick off for its release? so is it possible to have a online game server to host your maps? or am i just going Schizo?

Yes you can have an online server, if you really want to.

The problems are as listed below:
1. The host has to always be on - meaning that you have, effectivly, a dead guy all the way though the game.

2. It's expensive seening as other people can (and proberbly will) host their own games.
