Heyla all,

I've found some links that may prove very useful to budding character artists here - fashion croiquis. (I.e. body/pose shapes).

This is the first one I found - help with drawing poses and how to make a collection of poses.
http://katherinegerdes.com/journal/30/how-to-1-croquis#txpCommentInputForm

PDF of several standard body shapes - standard woman (ha!), petite woman, plussize woman, standard man, child and toddler. This stuff looks like perfect stuff for working out the proportions for character modelling!

also for you modellers needing some reference for a younger 9-12 year old, I drew this up and it can easily be adapted to females of that same age.

I included the side view which is not shown in the links, so now you can model with it more accurately

Very kind of you, oddmind. I'm sure the side view in particular will be of great help. (Though, is the top of the head, front view a bit pointy to your eyes?)

hehe did I mention I was making a conehead game?

yea alot of it is pretty screwy but when I use these for modelling I look at the height and width of it more than all around shape. Only because I can do it better in 3D.

Also I think i traced the head from that pdf file

Tinkergirl, do you know any sites that have images or videos to download freely of movement? If you do, it would be a big help.

not a 9 - 12 yer old indi, and hero height is 8, normal height is 6-7 for male. so mine is a bit tall, but i made the reference for one of my characters and thought I might as well post it here.

EDIT: just measured myself, I was wrong about the hero height, because im exactly 8 heads tall. Im a bit more grown than my character, so I have a normal adult body type.

This character is manga esque so the head is quite a bit larger than a normal head.

Manic - My arms are always too long its a curse.

EDIT: oh crap i didnt scale his right arm... his elft one is even still a tad bit long.

higgins - I made some animation references for fallout, Ill see if i can dig them up.

Ok here they are, various moves/combos from Shaolin kung fu.

No empty hand in this set, just weapons.

I've found that the classic collections of movement photographs are available here:Eadweard Muybridge

[edit]This is an 18+ site. Not from vulgarity, just because the models are not limited by clothing. Young people should have an adult check to see whether or not it's ok. (It's along the lines of the statue of David.)

Frames of people walking up stairs, horses galloping, punches etc in black and white photography.

Very good stuff, very old stuff. Over Some from the mid 1800's.

when i worked at the big D. we were taught via 8 heads for real life drawing and 6 heads for cartoon characters.

looking over references in the internet there is contention that people use different heights and ratios.
however its still debatable

this image probably backs up your method more then anything.

everyones head is different .

I never use the head method for measuring height because I never draw anyone standing straight up.

Also because the fact that there are many different ways of doing it.

Things like those diagrams would be a complete godsend to me - I'm so rubbish at drawing people that all tips, tricks, shortcuts and cheats are all appreciated. If they can help take my scribbles from 'incomprehensible mutant mess' to 'understandable concept' then I'm all for it

I know this is an old thread but it is worth resurrecting due to its content.
... and just to add to its content here is another good link for character reference blueprints:

This site is great, but I find that the reference images are really poor quality. You have to subscribe I think, which is a pain.

As for the head height thing, the head grows disproportionately compared with the rest of your body. Because it grows so slowly, the number of head heights in a body will increase with age untill adulthood.
