Doubt many of you will remember my Dodge The Fart WIP from over 1 year ago.

Well it kind of got forgotten about - but after recently purchasing Freddix's Excellent eXtends plugin, I decided to finish it.

Its pretty much done... Since the old version I've added a few performance tweaks, a menu system and a few graphics. Looks quite nifty now I think! Probably one of my nicer looking games (which neither says much about this or any of my other "works of art"!)

Any suggestions would be appreciated! I'll probably add sound next... I'm also want to sort out the "tilt meter" at the top left...

I've attached a self extracting 7z file of the game - 2.11Mb.

EDIT: The attached file is no longer the latest version... Please see this page:
http://www.thingy-ma-jig.co.uk/projects/dodge-the-fart
for the latest version.

It's pretty cool. The tilting cursor and stuff feels a bit awkward, however. Also, I like how this game actually uses eye-candy, though it's kind of hard to imagine a ball rolling smoothly over an uneven metal surface.

If only you knew me I called the game Dodge The Fart over a year ago and it comes from the fact you're dodging little things that come out of you. That and I'm crap at thinking of origional names

It does take a little while to get used to it... And I think its not help by...

Quote: "The tilting cursor"

... FoxBlitzz - you're right, that does need work. And I never really considered the effect that sourface should have on the ball. Maybe I should chose a smoother surface. That surface (along with its normal map) helps the player determine the angle the floor is at and its rate of movement...

I've given it its own project page on my website...
http://www.thingy-ma-jig.co.uk/projects/dodge-the-fart

Not much on there yet - I'm in the process of updating my site into a new CMS.

UPDATES:
The controls have been made more responsive.
The normal shader has been replaced with one from the ultimate shader pack in this WIP board. It now works on more cards.
The board texture is no longer metal and uneven looking - its a smooth wooden surface.
Somehow the game has gone from 2Mb down to 1.65Mb!!

It still requires the feb edition to DX9.0c though :-(

Thats interesting... Just tried it on my work machine which uses one of those crappy Intel "accelerators" (it seems to have the graphical prowess of a 3 year old with a crayon)... This is the result... It seems to have got its knickers in a twist with texturing!

Picky request; can you make the balls "roll". Now they are textured, it looks like they are sliding, not rolling.

I think you should have the program look for the name "Intel" in the display adapter name, and if it's found, display an angry message and force the user to quit. =D

I must say... This is a very fun little game! I haven't got over 20 farts yet... But I know I will someday!

Well done!

I've gotten to 61 before. Move slowly and the farts will be easy to dodge because you aren't shooting them at high speeds.

@Riidii - that is indeed on my "to do list". Its difficult though as I cant rotate the balls due to the way its programmed. I've tried UV scrolling but it doesn't quite look right.

@FoxBlitz: Thats not such a bad idea The key is to move slow, although in the latest version I've changed the gravity calculations a little so the little farts get effected by tilt more. Makes it more fun

@The Nerd - thanks for the positive comments. Much appreciated. I find the game does have a simple and yet addictive feel to it which is what I was hoping for. Its almost a "pick up and play" type game.

My Geforce4 card does not support any decent shaders so all I see is the text numbers moving around the screen.

I'm just waiting for AGP version of Geforce 7600 GS to be released in UK (any day now and should be well under £100) and then I finally have a shader model 3 card.

Boo!

Dont you see the board as in that dodgy screenshot where everything shares the same texture?
