BTW if anyone wants to use these just ask, ill put them up for download after I animate them.
Oh and I'll still do some requests.

Looking pretty nice, how many polies is the AK? Also I would suggest using a different texture for the barrel/clip it looks like its made of stone.

Thanks, I just changed the texture on the whole metal part, to make it look more like metal.
The AK has 4330 faces.

Good looking models there mate.

4k is WAAAY to much for a gun though. You should be aiming(hahaha) at under 800 for the players weapon and well under 500 for any others. I could grab all those Johnny ree images and show you but lol, you should be able to find them

Keep practicing!!

Yep I used max's optimise feature, now it has just under 1k, a little better dont you think?
Hmmm I think I'll try a shotgun next, then maybe a non weapon.

yea, basically just use 5 pointed cylinders for gun barrels.

also you dont need to model the inside of the gun barrel, just have a texture to show that theres a hole there, you will save ALOT of polys this way.

theres other tricks of the trade, but you'll find your own to use and it will be your style

I would say its personal opinion, I always model the inside of the barrel as my texturing is crap, and a single-stack of a 6-sided cylinder is 12 triangles, and 6 more to close the hole. Granted it saves triangles, but when its a number as worthless as 18, the "not-so-good" texturers out there will not lose much in performance. and the good texturers will achieve something with a little more realism (At a very slight cost to performance)

The AK looks a little chunky, but other than that, looks great... I'm waiting on that shotgun

it seems like your just making models really fast and not paying much attention to the actual look of them but if that model you made is your first well done, the MP5 has some major texture stretching, i suggest you look at a texturing tutorial for max um also try to set the uv to box and it should reduce some of the texture stretching. they are ok models just spend a bit more time doing it learn how to model not how to produce

First attempt at 3D Model and your using 3DS Max....why/how? Not bad models, reduce the polies and touch up the UV's / Textures a bit.

C'mon John H, some people can afford the educational version, and you should give him the benefit of the doubt. Yeah, it might be a pirate copy, but we arent exactly the pirate police in here. Unless he is blatantly being an exponent of piracy, dont give stick about it. Assumptions arent much.

Natflash, that MP5 would be a perfect model for the low-poly version that lies on the ground and such, but for the first person view, think about what you want the player to see. It would need more carefully modelled detail.

Keep practicing!!

Greenlig

3d Studios r WAY to expensive for us Indie Developers, id love to have a pirate version, instead of the crummy sketchUp which i cant get to texture/UV/whatever map the object when exporting to .3ds Its killing me!

Its good for a first character, I could bully that chest, but I won't.

4 hours? You'll find with some works the modelling alone will take much longer than that.

It looks like you smoothed him with turbo smooth or mesh smooth, I can never know what the max version of hyper nurbs is

There are techniques for getting around look with out wasting polies, as low detail models, don't look as good high poly. I have a bunch of tutorials online mate, they maybe useful, okay they're not for 3DS Max, but read the 'all round 3D tutorial 1' and you'll see how you can use them, not all tool types are covered there, just my common ones, I missed on there as well, extrusion, but everybody should know what that is .

The Lotus and the Character modelling tutorials might interest you, theres no point following the character one, its loosely based on its 3DS Max equivalent, for that google 'Joan of Arc tutorial' last time I checked the first best google link is to a thread by me linking to the tutorial

Oh and my tutorials are in this link. Any questions/requests, post there, but consider that I am busy with 3 things at the moment, when I return to 6th form next week, thats 4.

I draw way too fast but for some reason my modelling takes days.

For 4 hours, that's freakin' amazing... it takes me like 4 days to get the same sort of model done - Plus it's low poly, what more could you ask for?

Now here is my monster, it took me quite a bit longer to do this one, mainly because I made the texture myself this time, and UV mapping it was kinda hard; but anyway heres my monster.

And the wireframes.

P.S. Does anyone know the best way to rig something like this, would it be bones? Cos obviously I cant use a biped, which is my most preferred method.

My Lee Enfield, I did this one for Chris Franklin to include in his newest game, this models texture was baked, as you may be able to see, by the lighting thats on it.

OK now I've had my practise and i've improved a lot, I'm gonna make a model pack for you guys, most likely it will be free, but that depends on the quality of the final models.
In the mean time please suggest what static models you would like to see in the pack.
