Hey guys this is my LATEST model. Its a pirate character for a game I stopped working one about 8 months ago, so this may see release soon to the public!

I still have the UV Mapping, Rigging and texturing to do, but that should only take a few hours. That and any other tweaks he needs will be addressed!!

Comprised of 818 re-enforced concrete polygons, Augustus Crane is your model sea-faring hearty! Yeeaarg.

Comments and Crits Welcome/wanted.

Regards,
Greenlig

Wow thats totally awesome. Well done!

P.S. Looks like you could do a nice lookin' mesh-smooth on it. (not for games just for a high poly render or something) I'd like to see that Especially with blender's renderer. It is blender right?

looks like a YAFRAY to me ARGH.

I like this guy, just enough stylization to make me want to see him animated

the only problem or potential problem i see is the shoulder might not animate well due to the hard edge there, but then again its not exactly standard human antomy so well just see how it turns out.

I'd love to give a go at texturing this guy

Its blender alright, but only the internal renderer. I just have the AO turned on

I also noticed the shoulder and thought it would deform badly. I might release the UV map to the world to see what comes back...only i'm fairly ashamed of my poor mapping techniques so lol, dont hold your breath haha

I'll do a high poly version in a a tick.

greenlig

I too would like to see the UV map He looks like he'd be fun to texture (I could even try to make him a little more Steampiratey ) Great model though - I wish I could see him animated - I bet he'd have a great swagger.

Actually its interesting you mention steam pirate, cause thats what he was initially intended for...Only...he is more of a generic 'barbie' pirate. You put whatever clothes you want on him

edit - oh yer, i tweaked the model a bit. Added shoulder loops and some other unimportant face culling crap.

Love the Low Poly Version!. Got Real Character.

The High Poly Version is a bit too smooth.

@Biggadd - Yeah, its too smooth your right. All I did was put a meshsubdivide and smooth over the whole thing so no time was taken with it.

I'll start the texture today!!

Speaking of concept i do have the image here somewhere. Its done in paint, but on a wacom tablet i *borrowed* from my dad I must say using paint is good, cause its hassle free, and you can make quick designs really easily!!

Heres the concept image...

Arr that be nice, arr!

Um thew low poly looks better, wanna make it hi, try scaling the legs along the x axis. I prefer the (short and fat but still boss) image for this one.

Yeah the smooth version was just cause someone asked for it. I never intended it to be smoothed. My workflow for High-poly stuff differs greatly from my low poly stuff.

Thanks for the comments! I might make a small game with this guy and another i'm designing in it...

greenlig

sort out your normals, add a loop to the leg where it meets the crotch and you've got a go model!

I don't have a sig, live with it.

Your right Manic - it needs that extra loop. Dammit I just unwrapped it!! Aaaaah well. I'll see if i can be bothered doing that.

Oh and if anyones interested, I have now discovered how to export fully animated, fully textured .X files from blender!! I'm so happy now. This is the biggest answer to prayer EVER!!!

Yay walk cycle and idle are completed!! All i need is a run and jump and he's complete...for now.

Maybe an attack and die animation later as well.

Heres an image of the walk cycle...

I realise it's just a still, but he looks like there's not much torso movement in the mid-stride there - I'd imagined him swaying from side to side in a big, open gaited swagger

Will we be allowed to have a wee go with the UV map, at all, Greenlig? Not that I don't think you've done a marvelous job (and very true to your concept art) but I'd love to have a bash myself.

sword sword sword, i want a sworrdd!! you should definitely give him an attack with his sword.

once again i love the style, texturings a bit colourful for me. it'd be awesome if he had a whole crew to go with him.

Lol, ok i'll give the model out. I'm a little ashamed of the UV mapping cause its not all that good, so dont expect rocket science!!

With the walk cycle, my mate pointed out that his right arm moves with the right leg and vice verca with the left side....ie his walk is all wrong. More will be coming soon...

Here's the texture + the .X file. Please don't use this model in games just yet, as I havent finished it properly and I'd like to complete this before I give it out. Just something about me wanting to finish something off fully for once This little man will see the light of a full public release i assure you.

Greenlig

*bump* Has anyone tried texturing him with alternate textures yet? I started a job last week working 10 hour days so I get very little time to do anything of my own. Good thing its only for four weeks!!

Anyway, If you have done anything to it...Please post and show others!!!

Greenlig
