Hi guys.. got some extra money but not sure if I want to spend it on visual studio 2005.. question: is there any difference regarding the GDK when using vs2005 or the express edition? Because I've been reading alot of "can't get blah blah to work with express edition" but haven't seen many "this doesn't work with vs2005".

I have express edition already and sometimes I wonder if I may be missing a library or something...

The main difference between the two is that with the commerical version, you can create many different types of projects, and you dont have to download the PSDK.

You probably also get a few extra compiler options too.

There's not a great deal of difference, just a lot of the 'enterprisy' and profiling tools are missing. As far as I know they use the same compiler.

Actually, I did have to install the Platform SDK anyway. Although there is some psdk dir installed on the non-express version, it only has a few of the files. In particular it doesn't have quartz.dll...

Thats true. But if the GSDK didn't use DX8 - you wouldn't need to...
